"I've lived here my whole life. My mom used to actually work in the restaurant part of the hotel long ago. But since then, I've sure it has changed many hands & owners with different ideas. The two main themes that tended to stick most over the years would be the "Alaskan tourists taking full advantage of/& pushing their inlet view and other attractions in the city. Almost with a hostel or apartment feel to it cause there are live- ins there. An overall tourist hippy vibe. The second is the want to be the over the top Ritz type. Clean cut. trendy. With high-class feel and high-class people. the glitzy upscale. These ideas are 2 polar opposites, but over the years, they've morphed together landing somewhere between the two. It's got a great view in a nice part of downtown. Rooms are good size. There's a restaurant and an outside gazebo hang out area that's big. And quite cozy even in winter. New Sagaya is literally a hop across the street, Which is a very hipster whole foods type w/Asian cuisine and really all world food items. Very vegan, gluten-free, fair trade kinda market. Hot food to go also. The last time I was recently there the whole lobby was under mass construction so for giving you my opinion of inside the hotel wouldn't be fair (yet) new owners with new ideas or just updates are at it so we will see how it goes a Lil better once there done."
"Why did I go to take a shower and there is pubes in my tub?!?!When I called to even ask for additional towels I couldnt understand her and whoever that red head is, she doesnt need to be in customer service . She was the crudest person to my elderly grandma, we travelled from the village to be treated like we were too much for any assistance. My grandm is slow moving and we were goin up the elevator. She rolled her eyes and made these obnoxious noises as if she wanted to kick my grandma out of the way."
"Horrible beds. Toilets so short they must be original to the building. Asked desk clerk for firmer bed for our return visit (when leaving Alaska), absolutely no help. This place really needs upgrades. No a/c in some rooms. Very noisy when windows opened. Bathroom and carpets need replacing. Would NOT return again."
"Just don’t. There’s a Marriott close to this place. Go there. We booked this because the pictures looked decent, but they are not accurate. Where to start? Okay. The beds are not comfortable, the pillows have stains, the carpet is sticky (how???), your shoes will stick to the bathroom floor. There is no fan in the bathroom, the heater doesn’t work, but they can bring you a space heater that smells like burnt hair. The toilet didn’t flush. Nothing in the bathroom has been cleaned for a very long time. We’re talking, spittle on the faucet, and we cleaned the counter with toilet paper and it came away dirty, alright? There were weird noises all throughout the night. The mirror in the kitchenette (why??) was so dirty you could barely see yourself through it. The gap between the room door and the floor was about an inch and a half wide. So you could hear everything in the hallway as if it were happening in your room. And let’s not even talk about the stain on the ceiling that looked maybe like blood had been cleaned off it? We were too scared to take a shower here and slept on top of the comforter. Thank goodness we only had to stay for a night as we waited for our flight. It’s about a 10 minute car ride from the airport but it’s definitely not in a safe area. You have been warned."
"I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I booked a room here months in advance. We had a late check in due to a late flight. After traveling ALL day with a crabby toddler, I couldn't wait to get checked in and get to my room. Check in was easy and fine, we get to our room and notice that it hasn't been cleaned. Dishes in the room, towels all over the floor, beds unmade, reeks like cigarettes. We go to the front desk and explain the situation. They tell us "Oh I thought the room had been cleaned, well we're all full for the night so I can't give you another room, and housekeeping isn't here this late." We were able to get a refund, but now had nowhere to go. Its 1am and we are calling all over town trying to find another hotel to stay at. NO LUCK. Everywhere was booked. Thankfully we had family that lived nearby that could take us in for the night, but if we didn't have family we would've been sleeping in their lobby or on the street. I've never had such an unpleasant experience with a hotel in my life. The place was extremely dirty and very sketchy people going in and out. Do not stay here, especially for the price they charge. Spend a little more and go to the Captain Cook."
