Reviews of Forbidden Peak Brewery
"We're fortunate to have 4 breweries in Juneau and this is one of our favorites. Barnaby is a bit more creative in their beer line-up, but Forbidden Peak has a fantastic large space with great views of Auke Bay, and a solid beer line-up, albeit a bit stagnant / monotone. They have several seltzers for the non-beer-drinkers or gluten-free people in your group, and about 15 beers on tap. They introduce about one new rotating beer once a month or so, but the rest of the lineup feels a bit conventional - they mostly seem to stick to a tight ABV / IBU style range. (Or maybe that's just a winter '23/'24 thing?) If I had the opportunity to chat with the brewmaster I'd love to lobby for a few ideas: Sometimes less is more, you probably don't need 14 beers on tap - a smaller, more diverse line-up is catching on in some places. Any Belgian (tripel, wit, quad, BPA, etc) or farmhouse style (saison) in the regular lineup would be awesome. The occasional sour has been interesting but there are usually no details about the type of sour yeast or style target - they're usually "fruity" beers for some reason. There are 4 different lagers that are all very similar. Props for putting in the extra work lagers require; but I'm not sure having both American lager and German lager is worth it - the American one is just the German one rewritten to be less flavorful (gateway beer?). And the schwarzbier and marzen are just malt variants on the helles. Good beers, but lagers have a lot more potential diversity than that (bock, doplebock, pilsner, kolsch, etc). Thank you for listening and cheers to 2024!"
"Great friendly place with the best views and outdoor seating. Good selection of beers that aren't just IPAs. Food is really good as well. We come here with the kids or with friends to just hang out and drink beer. Great time all around."
"One of our favorite breweries on our Chicago-Alaska road trip. $2 hot chocolate and great vibes! We ended up going twice during our short Juneau stay because we loved it so much."
"Loved this place. Nice variety of on premise brewed beers. Indoor “food truck” with decent choices, would be nice to offer tortilla options on the tacos. Beautiful Views off the patio overlooking magnificent Auke Bay. Plenty of tables and heaters to keep you cozy and happy. Definitely a place to try."
"September 2022 — Score! The folks here did it right with pretty much everything. The brew selection (for hubby) was vast and most very delicious. Even for non-beer folks (me), there was a wine-like option available. Spacious seating, both indoors and out. Warm fireplace for inside seating, and heat towers/tables for outside seating, overlooking lovely views of Auke Bay and the harbor. Lots of beer-to-go, along with merch for the shoppers and sentimental folks. Food can be ordered at an eatery renting space opposite the beer counter. We ordered fish-and-chips that was STELLAR. The lightly battered cod chucks were cooked just right, and accompanied with a side of seasoned fries. As a *huge* French fries freak (if you read my other posts, you’ll see I mention fries a lot), these may have been one of my favorite fries. I only wish they had ketchup at the time…they ran out. What eatery runs out of ketchup?! LOL. I was sad."
