"I wasn't sure how visiting would be in the winter, but I was pleasantly surprised. Don't expect the bears or big cats to be out and about (they were all hibernating or napping) but you can expect to see some of the following: lots of beautiful birds (owls, eagles, ravens, and more!), a playful sea lion / seal and otter, Caribou, mountain goats, musk ox, camels (yes, camels!), llamas, deer, and coyotes. I even got lucky enough to see some baby black bears playing in the snow! Also, keep in mind that the vast majority of these animals are rehabilitated or unable to live in the wild as well. There are lots of signs around explaining the stories of the animals, why they're at the zoo, and facts about their species. If you stay for long enough you might also watch some of the animals get fed by staff, who appeared very friendly with the animals from my perspective. It was a delightful day, and I left the zoo with a full heart, grateful to be graced with the presence of the animals I saw. P.S. The raven was probably my favorite animal, as it was incredibly vocal and made some very adorable sounds. Some of them even sounded like electronics? They were amazing!"
"I visited the zoo in January 2024. I was hoping for a guaranteed moose sighting, but unfortunately the moose were not out that day. Lots of animals were not out (to be expected in the winter) but the ones that were out were very active, so that was nice. The little polar bear was a highlight. We were told that he had just been given a new toy, and indeed he was really enjoying it! I also loved seeing some of the animals in their little coats. The coffee shop in the center of the zoo is quite good as well."
"Such a cute little zoo! My favorite part was the river otters. It's so cute watching them swimming and flipping around having the best time! I also loved the wolverines, it was fun to watch them run around and play. We visited in November when it was about 30 degrees out - there were a good amount of animals to see and I was absolutely satisfied, but there were many who were hiding. The paths are pretty well-maintained, but be careful and wear proper footwear if you're visiting during an icy season! I definitely recommend checking out this charming little zoo."
"Nice little zoo, the fact that there is a lot of nature around makes the experience really great. Plenty of space for the animals, trails are taken care of, there’s a little coffee shop (wish they had more pastry’s). Great to hang around with your kids and learn about Alaska fauna."
"Fantastic little zoo! Very charming. Well groomed trails. We witnessed some feeding times. Many animals were happily playing. They all have suitable enrichment and toys in their pens. Some baby animals to see. The place had no waiting, no lines, and was not at all crowded! Always got front and center viewing when animals were doing cute things. I also love that they share the animal's life story. Most are rescued!"
