Smokejumper Visitor Center

"Closed for the season, website is down. I'm sure it's a great center but don't drive out unless you know it's open!"

"Holy cow, do not miss this museum, and be sure to take a tour because it includes the base itself. Extremely interesting and worth stopping for even if your destination is not Missoula. It is all free, so I suggest you buy some thing or donate some bucks. It was not clear, which of the numerous buildings that were part of the same complex was where one should enter. Some signage pointing the way to the museum would have been great."

"My first impression was really poor. It was not clear right away where to enter. There were lots of weeds in front of the building which looked terrible. The are no guided tours right now, even though their website says otherwise. It is a very small building. As a former wildland firefighter, I didn't really need the tour, but it would have been nice. There is a short informative video and a replica of the inside of a lookout. The only other thing to see is the gear smokejumpers use. At least it was free to enter."

"Very cool museum. We didn’t catch a tour but it was nice to walk around the property and see the history of Smoke Jumping. Since it is next door to the airport we stopped in after being on a plane for two and a half hours the kids loved stretching their legs."
