About the Racetrack Cabin
Racetrack Cabin is a rustic one-room log cabin located along Racetrack Creek in the Flint Range of western Montana, near the Continental Divide. Originally built to house miners in the 1930s, this remote cabin has been refurbished for public use by the Forest Service. Guests can enjoy a true backcountry experience with no distractions from cellular or internet service. The area offers motorized and non-motorized trails leading to scenic lake basins and stunning views. Fishing opportunities are abundant in nearby lakes and streams.
The cabin is equipped with bunk beds, a propane stove, lantern, kitchen supplies, and wood stove for heat. Guests must bring their own bedding, water, and other essentials as there is no electricity or running water at the cabin. The surrounding area is densely forested with opportunities for hiking, hunting, fishing, and wildlife viewing.
Access to the cabin requires a high-clearance vehicle in summer and snow travel in winter. The road to the cabin is rough and may be impassable to low-clearance vehicles. Reservations are nonrefundable, and guests should be prepared for primitive conditions during their stay.
Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to explore and enjoy at Racetrack Cabin, from trout fishing in the nearby creek to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. The area also offers historic sites, such as the Grant-Kohrs Ranch and Old Montana Territorial Prison in nearby Deer Lodge. For a unique wilderness experience in the heart of Montana, Racetrack Cabin is the perfect destination.
Reviews of Racetrack Cabin
"Beautiful spot too bad that in confirmation or anywhere else they don’t mention or provide access code for entry. As there is no signal for any carrier you may as well end up like me. Come spend a day in front and go home. No code no entry… and it could be such a nice stay…"
"Great cabin, hard to get to. Due to some recent washouts the four miles to the cabin from the campground has become a very difficult drive. High clearance four wheel drive is necessary and you should expect at least a 30 minute drive to cover those four miles."
"One of my favorite cabins to go to. Easy to access in a gorgeous area. Head up in the summer or snowshoe or snowmobile in during the winter months. It's always great!"
