Reviews of Lonesome Dove Guest Ranch
"We were on a 3 months road trip out West (camping in our tent, hotels, cabins etc) and were looking forward to staying at the "Ranch" after a long 8 hour drive. Like all reviews on places to stay there are good and bad and I don't normally leave a review unless the service or accommodations were very bad or exceptional. That being said the Lonesome Dove guest ranch was very disappointing (The term Ranch is to be used loosely). There are campers on the property the appear that people live in full time or where trash was put to keep it out of the way, old machine sheds used for storage of items that needed to be thrown away. They did have horses, cattle and a Bison in a pen so that might qualify the place to be a Ranch but it's not a GUEST Ranch. We stayed in the Woodrow cabin. The bed was very uncomfortable, old bedding/sheets and the couch was nasty and uncomfortable to sit on. We even used our own sheets as the we couldn't tell if the sheets on the bed were clean (small blood spots). Our cabin did have a bathroom but we only used it for the toilet as the shower was not clean and still had used bar of soap on the shelf. Overall this is NOT a guest ranch. It's a piece of land with cattle, horses, Bison and large storage sheds converted to "cabins". If you're looking for the cheapest place to stay in the area then you'll be fine. If you want to be comfortable, feel at home then I suggest spending the extra $$ and stay in town."
"I don’t like leaving a poor review but we were very disappointed with our cabin we rented. We rented the Woodrow cabin which was 2 beds (very very uncomfortable) and a super old couch that had a fold out bed . The extra blankets were nasty and no pillow cases for the dirty pillows. I understand we were in the forest but there were bugs all over the bathroom. The whole cabin just felt dirty. We were so disappointed after a long day of driving just wanted to relax however it didn’t feel comfortable. The tee pees out back looked cool. We did have a great encounter with a horse handler named Nicole who was super helpful- thank you Nicole! I wouldn’t recommend the Woodrow cabin."
"I booked a cabin at this place back in December of 2022, as soon as the dates for Under the Big Sky came out. When I arrived, I was informed that due to unforeseen circumstances the room in the house that I had booked was no longer being used for guests. The problem with that was I hadn't booked a room in the house, I had booked a cabin. The solutions offered to me were A) stay in a cabin the first night, move mine and my girlfriend's luggage out early in the morning, return later, and dry camp in a wall tent for the second night. Then repeat this process the next day to stay in a different cabin for the third night, or B) accept a full refund and find other accommodations, knowing full well on short notice during the busiest weekend of the year, the full refund would barely cover the cost of a single night at a hotel in town. My girlfriend and I chose to not take our chances elsewhere, so we endured the daily moves for the whole weekend. Now, I understand things happened that were out of the ranch's control. But I booked this stay 7 MONTHS in advance, and my first notice that something was wrong wasn't until I drove 2 days and 1148 miles and was standing in their office. No phone call, no email, nothing. Was the staff apologetic? Yes. Did they present a solution that at least meant we had a bed every night? Yes. But they still failed to do the easiest possible thing and notify me of the issue as soon as they knew, which was apparently weeks in advance. Then I could have posed the question of why I was being told my room in the house wasn't available when I'd booked a private cabin, not a room. As far as my girlfriend and I could tell, we were the only guests who were being bumped around, and this despite booking over half a year in advance, and reserving a different accommodation than they seemed to have us on record for. And on top of all that, the staff tried to make it seem like they'd done us a favor with the "upgrade" into the cabins for 2 nights...despite booking all 3 nights in the same cabin in the first place!"
"Loved this place so much! Such a unique place for both travelers and locals to stay. The owners go above and beyond to take care of their guest. The complimentary breakfast was AMAZING!!! A shocking, wonderful view of the stars at night. A great place to meet fellow travelers and share stories. The teepees and tents are clean and comfortable. Path to the bathroom is clear and well lit at night, and the showers are very nice and clean. The whole experience was perfect!!"
"This was an amazing stay. Our family stayed in the Gus cabin. I enjoyed coffee on the porch watching deer graze. It is so peaceful here. The kids had so much fun too. Buffalo, horses, cows, rabbits, chickens, a turkey and a cat were all the animals we saw during our stay. The breakfast included with the stay was absolutely delicious and very filling. The staff have excellent service and so welcoming. Our cabin was nice and cool when we arrived and had everything we needed. The rustic option with the feeling of more simpler times was a fabulous stay. We hope to return for another stay. Thank You for the excellent hospitality giving us a peaceful vacation."
