"Nobody “wants” to have mental health issues. We all have different ideas of what mental health treatment “should” look like. 99% of addicts have co-occurring mental health issues. I was in crisis and have no history of addiction, so I became angry at the focus on addiction while I was a patient. I asked for a Chaplin several times and never saw one in 14 days. Was this frustrating? YES. Was the other option better (no mental health treatment at all), NO. Approximately 6 months after my 2 week stay here, I attempted suicide. My psychiatrist (assigned during my first stay) was Dr. Shumard. He was the first face I saw when I awoke in the ER recovery room. I have since worked with Dr. Shumard and can confidently say, there isn’t a kinder, more intelligent, more capable mental health physician available in any adjoining state! It’s taken me three years to climb out of the darkness of severe depression (and I understand I must be vigilant to avoid succumbing to depression again). With help from Dr. Shumard & the staff at “Pathways” I not only feel amazing once again, but I understand how to function with an awareness of my mental health condition so that I don’t go down the path to suicide again. They saved my life and I’m forever grateful to 1)The Flathead county sheriffs, 2) Logan Emergency Room 3) Dr.Shumard & Pathways. I love you guys & gals!!!"
"Thank God for Pathways, they've saved my life 2 times now. Some of the mattresses definitely need to be replaced. The food is awesome! The staff is professional and caring. I love the groups. CK"
"Wonderful community asset! Providers were excellent at listening and communicating with family. They did a great job with diagnosis and treatment plan of my daughter. Staff were caring, my daughter was scared initially but commented on how kind the staff were. Very impressed with the care my daughter recieved. So thankful for this facility!!"
"Staff is wonderful for the most part. The male cook is surly and abrasive. Probably should be replaced as soon as possible. Shrink known as Dr. P also has some personality issues that could be addressed. Mattresses are physically painful to sleep on, temperature is a nightmare, icy cold in some places, freezing in other but never comfortable. Showers are scalding hot and not way to manage temp by patient. All that being said the staff members are helpful and always have a positive attitude. In 5 visits I have never met one having a bad or not willing to help me. Even when dealing with difficult patients wanting impossible things they are gentle and soothing. Rex therapy is varied and amusing, with people wanting to help. Routine is consistent, which is very helpful. Groups should be reduced to processing in the morning and recovery on the evening and Recreation/art in the afternoon and then the time allowed for these groups should extended. A single Person should have the dedicated job of running those groups that is not a therapist/counselor who needs to be doing other duties during those times. This way more people get a chance to participate and get something from the groups. As a short term facility fewer more intensive groups are better than more shorter groups."
"This hospital was not very helpful in it's treatment, I often found myself enjoying the company of the staff much more than that of the doctors. It felt as though I lead most of the group sessions and that I provided more insightful comments than the therapists. It did, however, allow me to regress from my suicidal mindset. So that definitely counts for something. But, this was not the case for many of the other patients. Most of them had been there numerous times and felt as though they made little progress. For anyone considering admitting a child or themselves, I would say this: places like this are not meant to fix you, and they never will. They are here to get you out of a dangerous mindset, that is all. I give this facility three stars because while it did little in the realm of helping me, it gave me the opportunity to take a step back and self reflect, later leading to what I would call a semi-recovery. By that I mean I am now able to pull myself out of a downwards spiral, but I still struggle with suicidal thoughts and depression in general. This is largely caused by the fact that I entered this facility with an open mindset. I hope that this helps those considering coming here."
