"Our apartment suffered a flood last Friday. The kitchen sink overflowed with dirty water, drenching the cabinets and floor. We promptly contacted emergency maintenance, who assured us they'd arrive the following morning. True to their word, they appeared, but unfortunately, they were unable to resolve the issue, stating that we needed plumbers who were presently unreachable. Throughout the day, despite our repeated calls, neither the plumbers nor the supervisor arrived, leaving us and our neighbors unable to use the kitchen. To manage, my husband continuously emptied the sink with a bucket. Given the unbearable odor and the presence of a one-year-old at home, we inquired about alternative accommodation, only to be met with the same response—no access to the supervisor. Another day passed with no assistance or communication. By Monday, someone was finally dispatched to address the water issue. However, despite assurances, the promised floor cleaning was never carried out. Upon contacting them at 4:08 pm, I was informed that the supervisor had left for the day, leaving us waiting yet again until the next day. For four days, we've been continuously told to wait, feeling as if we're pleading for basic assistance. This prolonged delay and lack of concern from their end is disheartening."
"EXTREME HEALTH HAZARD LIVING HERE. This is found in a closet while we were cleaning up Christmas decor. We currently have mold growing on the asbestos ceilings in our bedroom and on the sides of the walls and windows in both bedrooms. We have also had an IMMENSE mold issue in the living room that they made us clean up ourselves. This is the 2nd year we’ve dealt with this mold but NEVER to this extent. We have been taking every health measure including leaving the windows open at night during the cold winter, left on all the ventilation devices, use an air purifier every night. I emailed about the mold in the bedroom and they told me I would need to wait two weeks before they fixed it. Then I called the emergency hotline tonight and they told me they didn’t like my attitude and would be hanging up when I told them it was a health hazard. Genuinely RUN from this housing. This is why it is cheap in this market."
"My family and I lived in the University Student Apartments from 2016-2020. First and foremost my 5-star rating is based more on the community than the actual apartments. The community was WONDERFUL!! Everyone living there was in similar situations... going to school, living minimalistical lives, raising families and trying to enjoy life in between all the chaos. My family was able to meet and become friends with people from all over the world. There was always some sort of community event happening whether in the courts, all the apartments or activities at the University. The apartment management and maintenance is great as well. They try their best to help in any way they can. The buildings were old, but no one was really living there for the beautiful apartments. All the utilities were included in the rent which was the same every month - once a year (July) the rent would increase. We were there four years and it only went up maybe $200 total. It was a much better price than trying to live off-campus. There were a bunch of playgrounds (one playground per every 3 or 4 apartment buildings), a lot of grassy areas (perfect for playing, picnicking, or snow sledding), laundromats in every apartment building, and a community center for activities or could be reserved for private events. Currently (Aug 2022) the University Student Apartments are being renovated - old buildings being torn down and rebuilt. It's planned to be complete for Fall 2023."
"Excellent experience over the past 2 1/2 years living in the University Student Apartments. We have loved the community, natural beauty, and cheap rent of the apartments. They aren’t fancy, but they are perfect for newlywed students or anyone looking for very affordable housing close to campus. We especially LOVED having the gardens! Growing our own vegetables during the summer has become a new hobby."
"This is a horrible place to live. If you value sanitary living conditions, privacy, and a nondiscriminatory place to live, steer clear of this place. The University of Utah Married Student Housing offices are intent on inserting themselves in every decision you make in the complex, the Resident Assistants are rude and untrustworthy. The rooms are AWFUL! There is mold constantly in the bathroom, the shower clogs weekly regardless of how many work orders we put in to fix it, they have rules for every single little aspect of human life and constantly send rude emails to the entire apartment community commenting on single toys left out on the lawn by neighbors, plants on the windows, or decorations they do not agree with. The power plugs throughout the apartment are somehow incapable of holding a cord(the cords fall out without even being pulled with a nice dangerous spark emitting from it) After informing the housing department of this, they did the usual and ignored us. The stairwells smell like urine and this place is truly disgusting. PLEASE PLEASE spend the extra hundred dollars a month to live in a more satisfactory place nearby. You will not regret it."
