"Only gave 1 star because it wouldn't let me post with 0 stars. If possible, I would give REMAX and Agent Cara McDonald a -5 stars. Cara was representing the buyer in purchasing our home. Buyer offered cash, full asking price. Sounded ideal. Buyer was doing a 1031 Exchange so needed to rush closing to meet deadlines on several properties. When I got the actual offer, I needed some clarification on some dates and when I requested a change or clarification, Cara was kind of snarky and just wanted us to sign and accept the offer. We were scrambling and trying to pull together all of the logistics to move out in a 30 day period; storage units, a house rental as well as packing up a large home and outbuilding after 19 years. I showed up to closing to learn that Cara had not heard from the Buyer but was sure the deal would go through. I was told the $1,000 earnest money had been wired. The closing documents showed the earnest money as being held by Remax. Buyer never showed up for closing and wouldn't return phone calls. Cara could not find him. She had no information on him except for his name and phone number. No driver's license, no Social Security number, no address, and no financial information. The could not find any wire transfers for the earnest money. All they could find was a Facebook page with his name, picture and a picture of a Semi Tractor; no other information on that page. He was a scam artist although we have not been able to figure out was he was getting out of it. No one wants to take accountability for the fact that we were told there was earnest money when it actually hadn't been wired. We went through a lot of inconvenience, to put it mildly, and told we didn't have any recourse. In my opinion, Cara and Remax failed in their due diligence to find out if this buyer was for real. I will never use Remax or refer anyone to Cara McDonald."
