"Our server Gordon was great, food was really good, our margaritas were awesome. Birria tacos, mole enchiladas, spicy marg, peach marg. My only complaint is the food seems a little expensive. I'd go again though."

"Had a wonderful experience at Monarca. The location, decorations, table settings were excellent. We had a large group, and despite the difficulty, the service was excellent for speed, and paying attention to detail. Enjoyed guacamole, queso, and chips and salsa appetizers. The issue with the food was with my main dish was Octopus Tacos. However it was missing key ingredients from the description and photo of the dish: there were no tomatoes and mandarins on the tacos. It was only the octopus and aoli sauce. Seems like a large miss on not finishing the plating. That said, the sauce was a delicious flavor. The octopus tasted wonderful. I was surprised and how perfect the texture was. I'm sure if I had asked about the tacos, they'd have made it right. I was just in a hurry, and didn't ask. Overall it's a wonderful restaurant, and I'd go again."

"Got to try Monarca for lunch. You say it like you say, monarch butterfly. Located in downtown Salt Lake, about 200 S and State. It's artsy Mexican that’s beautiful to see and eat! Our waiter said it’s very popular, since so many influencers and others have raved about it. So get reservations if you go for dinner - especially on weekends. Overall, the spice level is mild. There are layers of flavor and it’s light and fresh but if you like more kick, you can ask. We had elotes for an app and we were both crazy about it. I like the seasoned lime wedge you can squeeze over it. Plus, the imaginative popcorn topping. He got the enchiladas, the rice was light and I needed another cup of salsa verde. I got chicken, steak and pork (not sure what they’re called). I like the substantial taco sort of base. Just enough black bean puree as a base. There are lots of lime wedges. I couldn’t eat them all - they’re more filling than they look. So I’m looking forward to eating them for lunch tomorrow. The plates are so 70s urban hip - my plate was different than his, which is fun. I’ve got to come back with a group when it’s crowded and loud to share a bite if more. Chocolate cake for dessert with some cream and a quality Maraschino cherry. Very rich and not bittersweet nor overly sweet. Good to share. We were full. Also, I've heard it's a real party at night. I want to come back with a group so we can try a lot more dishes. Allow extra time for parking."

"We made a reservation and we’re promptly seated. Friendly service, waitress very attentive. I ordered the sweet potato tacos and they were delish. My husband ordered the chicken enchiladas suise. The enchiladas were not very flavorful and not much sauce. The food had good flavor and you didn’t feel overly stuffed as you left the dinner. Nice ambiance."
