"My husband and I went look at their adult dogs and every single dog was covered in diarrhea and urine. They had an adoption even going on, so you would think that they would want all the kennels and dogs to be in the best shape possible, but when we mentioned one of the dogs to the staff, they said "oh yeah, all the dogs like playing in their messes. We'll probably clean them tomorrow." It made me so upset that their conditions are so poor. These dogs deserve better. Especially when 5 staff members were all hanging out at the front desk."
"If I could rate them lower I would. Terrible service! Not available to the public at all. Still can’t figure out where all our property taxes go? I called on Friday right after 6pm with a lost dog I had found. The dispatcher told me that they were closed for the weekend and took my phone number. I waited all night for a call back. NOTHING! So Saturday I take her to the Humane Society who wouldn’t accept her because I found her in West Valley. They told me to call dispatch again and say it was urgent because I have 3 of my own dogs. The dispatcher was extremely rude. I asked if I could take her to the Salt Lake County Shelter on 3900 S and 500 West ran by Salt Lake County seeing that I live in Salt lake County. They told me NO! The dispatch told me if I couldn’t take care of her to just let her back out on street. I couldn’t believe she said that to me! Disgusting! She needs to lose her job! So I keep the Golden Doodle all weekend. West Valley Shelter doesn’t call me at all! Monday they don’t open til 11am! At 9am Monday I finally get a call back. I tell them how angry I am at the lack of services provided. I tell them I had worked all weekend trying to find this dogs home. I bathed her. I cut off 2”-3” mats on her legs. I kept her warm in my home. I told them I was taking her to my vet to have scanned and if she wasn’t chipped I was giving her to a lady with land that would care for her correctly. Now all of a sudden they care! They don’t service the public all weekend but now that they know they can make money off of a unchipped Golden Doodle they want to step up. The West Valley and Salt Lake County Animal Services did NOTHING to assist the public on this!"
"See comment for (IMO) awesome picture of my adoptee (the husky) with current dog (the hound beagle mix). It's her 1 week anniversary of being in forever home courtesy of West Valley Animal Shelter. They were worried first about how Lilly would do in a new home and with my other dog. But 1 week later she's responding to love and has place of forever home. EVERYONE at shelter was amazing and helped me find my new girl. They were friendly, knowledgeable and considerate and this is such a good news story so thanks all! Please please, get a shelter pet from them and listen to the (mostly) gals that work there. They know their stuff in a very difficult place to work at!"
"I bought my dog here almost 2 years ago. When I went in, I wasn't expecting to take a dog home but I managed to find the perfect dog for me! The staff helped me get paper work done fast and were helpful. If you have the chance and want to adopt a pet from the shelter, I'd recommend coming here and doing so :)"
