"Very sad that someone you trusted with your taxes won't even call you and tell you what's going on. All Debbie had to do was send her clients a letter stating they were out of business and taxes were not filed. We have been through hell trying to reach the IRS and OTC. Reached OTC today and they said the taxes were not electronically filed as the copies of our returns indicate. We have no stimulus check, no refund, only hours of frustration and who knows what the IRS and OTC are going to hit us with. We have dealt with Ortega for years. Would a letter or email telling her clients what is going on have been that difficult? I hope she is well, but to those of you who have yet to receive a stimulus check or refund, start calling the IRS and OTC today."
"After more than 16 years of doing my taxes Debbie did my 2018 and filed them electronically but they didn't go through. She didn't tell me that. In February of 2019 I get a letter from the IRS stating my 2018 taxes hadn't been done. I went to her office and told her about it, she said she would resend them and took my 2019 1099s to file for an extension. Soon after that covid-19 shut down everything and I thought the matter was taken care of. Sometime in June I still haden't got my $1,200 stimulus so I called the IRS and they told me my 2018 taxes hadn't been done. And there was no 2019 extension on the records. She didn't do her job. After being paid. I called her 30 to 40 times, left message after message and never got a response. I went to her office wrote a note and put it on her door, came back another time and the note was gone and she still didn't respond. I banged on her door while I could see someone moving around inside her office for more than 15 minutes and she still didn't come to the door. I told her in several messages if she didn't want to or have time to do my taxes give me back my 1099s and Id go somewhere else. I never got a response. I ended up losing my medical insurance two weeks before a surgery that had been planned for several months because of her treating me like garbage after so many years. I think she had some type of mental breakdown or something, she was always slow she was always bad at answering the phone or calling you back, she always made excuse after excuse about not being in the office. But over the years the actual job of doing the taxes was always fine. I don't know what happened to her but I'm extremely frustrated with her actions. Do not under any circumstances have her do your taxes. She is done what she did to me to several people from Reading other reviews. She has never apologized or taking responsibility for her actions. I've never gotten a call from her with any explanation whatsoever and I still haven't got my original 2019 1099s back. Save yourself a potential massive headache and just go to someone else. If she's going to treat people the way she did me and some others she shouldn't be in business."
"I used Ortega Bookeeping due to being close to home. The first year I had no issues. This year they did not submit my federal return and the IRS website did not reflect anything. I've called and left several voicemails, sent several emails and still have yet to hear from Debbie."
"Ortega filed my taxes electronically in March. The IRS shut down for awhile, but came back in August. Ortega responded that all checks were delayed . After that Ortega refused to return my calls or emails regarding my status. I spent several hours on the phone trying to reach the IRS, and The IRS determined that my initial filing was not received and Ortega should refile electronically. Again, Ortega refused to return calls or emails, and was not in the office. I mailed my return to the IRS and State in December, with the copies Ortega provided back in March. OK State processed my refund then, but not the IRS. Now we are being penalized because the Stimulus checks are based on 2019 returns. I have never in my life received such poor customer service from a paid professional. I don't recommend this business at all."
"I took my taxes to Debbie on February 8th and waited and waited for her to contact me to come sign my return. After calling and calling and emailing, I finally got a response that due to COVID she was behind. She had my taxes for a month before COVID was an issue. I do not own a multi million dollar company. It was a moderately complicated return due to owning a business, a W2 and my husbands 1099. I was finally contacted to come sign my return on June 22nd and was told that it would be filed in the next few days. A month later the Irs site still had no record of my taxes being filed. After numerous calls and emails, Debbie stated she would re file them. After numerous emails more, she stated she refiled them again (july 28th) . Its now august and I was informed August 27th, by the IRS , that Debbie never got her EFIN # to be able to electronically file anyones taxes. It should have been acquired by the end of December and was not taken care of. My taxes were rejected and now Im to file them myself or take them to someone else. I did get my money back from Debbie after some health issues and her going on vacation, but now, after almost 6 months, I still do not have my taxes done. Guess its a good thing I just had her do my taxes. This was a trial run for her to do my business books and possibly books for my sons 3 businesses. So disappointed in the way things were handled or should I say not handled. She did blame it at one point on the place or site she uses to efile. The IRS said this was her issue. I did learn to always ask for proof from whoever you use to do your taxes, to make sure they have the proper license to do them. LESSON LEARNED and now to file my taxes late, for the first time in my life."
