"***UPDATE*** I still haven't been able to get in touch with anyone. It's been nearly two months. The instructor for my kid has mostly been another child. The amount spent is too much for what is actually learned. I have attempted to cancel the course for over a month now without success. No one picks up the phone. No one returns my calls. No one has returned my emails. When I contacted them in the past to give them more money, I get a response within a few hours. So my perception is that I'm being actively ignored."
"Be informed - It’s expensive $1350.00 is what we paid for 6 months for our two children to participate just for the basic training classes and to my knowledge the prices have gone up since. That covered 8 classes a month. It doesn’t stop there, you also have to buy each child all the gear to participate from them which cost us another $180. They would also bill our debit card $78 every few months for the belts and graduation our children earned. Be aware they also suggest that you should attend karate tournaments and camps every few months or so, some costing an additional $300 for two children. In total we ended up spending around $1686.00 for 6 months of karate. The following was our personal experience with Bobby Lawrence Karate. We received a flyer saying first 6 weeks free. So we gave it a try. At first it seemed great and everyone was so nice. I’m thinking it’s because we weren’t locked into a contract yet. They said we would receive the free uniform on the 4th week which was included just for trying them out for 6 weeks. However after class on the 4th week before they would gave us the free uniform they had us pick and sign a contract. Which we found to be a little weird and pushy. They have it set up in such a way that the longer the contract you sign the better price you get, with a three-year contract being the lowest price. That should of been our first red flag. Regardless we signed our two children up for 6 months and got started. Our children seemed to enjoy the atmosphere and we thought the classes were good for our children and their age group and believe they were taught some good skills along the way. We also like how the younger instructors would interact with the kids. So all in all I understand some of the positive reviews, but I still don’t think it’s worth what you have to pay. That might be why they don’t put any prices on the “Try it for free 6 weeks flyer.” Also in my opinion their way of communication is ridiculous, especially when it came to billing and unexpected charges to the card you provide them with while signing a contract. If I ever had a question for Justus and tried calling, he would hardly ever answer. Sometimes I had to wait 2 weeks for a response and then would finally get a reply via email or text which was very frustrating!! The purpose of writing this review was to share our personal experience and to help someone else make an informed decision if they are considering Bobby Lawrence Karate. In my opinion their strategy is very meticulous in the way they get and receive clientele. I don’t think it’s very professional to a potential client to offer something for free then before you give it to them have them sign a contract with two weeks remaining of the free trial period. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere and try to find a place that doesn’t have you sign an extended contract for a small discount. Please read the fine print in the contract before you sign because they won’t let you out. We are so glad we didn’t get sucked into signing their 3 -year contract!!!"
"We love Team Justus. All the instructors have been incredible to work with. They all teach with competence and have a big impact. This school is more than kicking and punching. They encourage and enforce great behavior, confidence and physical and mental health habits in the students. My son looks forward to it every day and loves all the extras. They know us by name and feel like family. A great investment!"
"Our experiences at Team Justus - Bobby Lawrence Karate over the past six months have been awesome! I've watched my son learn and grow in karate technique, focus, discipline, and social values as he puts forth real effort in class. Instructor Luis in particular is TERRIFIC - he is totally invested in the kids and in teaching them. I feel like he truly cares about the students, and that's important to me as a parent. Ben Davis is also great, as are some of the other instructors (whose names are escaping me at the moment). We also love the other activities offered through the studio: Ninja Warrior Camp, Parent's Night Out, Bring Mom/Dad to Karate Day, etc."
