"My daughter in high school had a wonderful experience being in a smaller high school. There were no bullying issues, the staff and teachers knew and were invested in each student, going the extra mile to help them be successful. Hands on activities and experiences, yearly projects and the option for any student to excel and be given the support they need. A school that has IEPs for students who need them, also options for concurrent enrollment at UVU. My son in the elementary school had a wonderful year with caring, loving teachers and aides and staff. It is a community in itself. Highly recommend high school and elementary schools at Walden School of Liberal Arts."
"I love the Montessori Method for my kids because it they have been early readers, so they are able to learn and grow from where they are at, not achieving a grade level minimum they met before starting school. The teachers and staff are friendly and supports the school vision to create a microscosm community for the students. Even if you only have one student attending Walden, ALL of your children are considered part of the community. We love our "hippie" school!"
"Two of my kids started at the middle school this year and we absolutely love it! Because the curriculum interrelates they are learning so much, not just memorizing facts. It has really given them a world view and allowed them to appreciate what they have and to express themselves. They do such fun and in depth projects I feel like they really teach in a way that is successful to all learning styles. They also treat your child as an individual. One of my sons has some resource needs and the 2nd day he was there the middle school director called a meeting with the middle school team to talk about his needs. I have tried for years to find the right fit for him! My kids love all the choices they have for electives plus they have tons of free after school clubs. They also have lots of opportunities like hiking, and traveling when they are older.. Any questions or issues I have brought up have been addressed immediately. In HS which some of my kids will be in next year they also offer some sports teams which a lot of charter schools don't. I don't feel like they just let them get away with not doing assignments, its just that their grades are done by rubric so it is the whole understanding not just points for assignments and tests. I have both my daughters in the lottery for next year because I have been so happy with Walden. Also one of the first things my kids noticed was that the kids truly are friendly. My boys both have social anxiety and one is on the autism spectrum, and through clubs they made friends right away. We have moved a lot and have been in schools in Las Vegas, Cedar City, PF and AF including many charter schools. Yes they do call the teachers by their first name, there are no uniforms, so my son can wear his collection of hats, and some staff has pets, to me that is all awesome. I saw someone else mentioned religion, we are of the dominant religion and my kids have fit in just fine the staff and students is a wide variety of people, and they really focus on the culture of appreciating others.Walden by far is the best experience we have ever had and I want all of my children to graduate from there."
"This school has little to no cliques. You can walk through the halls and have a conversation with really anyone. Also, this school provides great depth into lots of subjects. I love that the classes are smaller, 20 people at most. You can ask the teachers more questions and get more one on one. I love Walden for everyone there and what they provide. The only thing I'd want to be improved is that if you're new there, they don't have any testing to put you in the classes (levels, such as a higher or lower math class.) you need to be put in. When I got the chance to possibly do so, they told me it was too far into the year to transfer. But, a friend of mine told me she had her parents talk to them specifically that she was to be in a different class, and she got to. Another good thing... You have a better opportunity to get the classes you want, and the schedule you want, while still giving you the required knowledge (beyond required ;) ). Also, the trips are immensely fun. Everyone there is so friendly and kind. It's school, so there is always the iffy people that don't make the experience as fun. Besides them, everyone is great there."
"I have a daughter and little brother and sisters that go to this school. There are many great things about this school. They are free to express themselves and learn in their own way. The teachers are great and they really take time with their students, because they have smaller classes. My daughter loves this school! The best part is traveling all over the world! Can't wait to join them!"
