Reviews of Joyce University of Nursing and Health Sciences
"Nursing school is hard. The Joyce program is very hard. I struggled through it every single day, it is not for the faint of heart. The thing is it was doable. Class sizes and campus are small, which creates a great community. When I needed support it was always avaialble through other students, teachers and even administration. This program does test prep to prepare you to pass the NCLEX, but they don't ignore the need to practice necessary hands on skills. I find Joyce better prepared me for actual nursing than some of new grads from other schools I've encountered. Joyce has several sim labs. I felt these were instrumental in preparing me as I was able to practice skills in a safe environment where I didn't have to fear making mistakes. I could ask questions, and I felt supported. The practice in the sim labs helped make interactions with actual patients feel less intimidating. I am still friends with many people I met while at Joyce. I am impressed with the quality of nurses we were able to become thanks to Joyce. I definitely recommend Joyce University's nursing program. I have to admit you may feel fusterated, overwhelmed, and even scared at times. I also have to reassure you that you can get through it, there is support available if you ask for it, and Joyce will prepare you to be an amazing nurse!"
"Oh Joyce.. I began the 5-semester BS-to-BSN program January of 2022 and graduated in Aug, 2023 - I had to wait this long to write a more non-biased, less emotionally based review. I knew going into the program that I was toeing a fine line going to a private school - logic would dictate spending a fraction of the cost at a state school, however, Joyce's program provides a unique opportunity to get a BSN in a non-traditional, expedited, roundabout way. There are a few commonalities between most all of the students I knew while in the program. First, Joyce doesn't care about your emotional capacities as a student. The school is FOR PROFIT, meaning they like to see numbers. What numbers? High NCLEX pass rate and increasing class sizes. The ONLY reason I joined the program was because they were accredited and had an NCLEX pass rate >90%, meaning it was indeed a viable program to becoming a nurse. If you, as a student, can't handle a little stress and adversity without freaking out and raging on google reviews, then perhaps this school (or nursing?) isn't for you. The second commonality between students was that the learning is by and large independent with little to no support. Classes are online, meaning Joyce uploads content and assigns "professors" from across the country to pretend to give support - but if we're being honest, how much support can really be given when you don't see your professors in person, when they're not even in the same time zone as you? In essence, be prepared because you WILL feel like you're teaching yourself nursing at times. I supplemented the education by working full time as a CNA at one of the ICUs at U of U - I would HIGHLY recommend working as an aid in a hospital so you can apply some of the knowledge you're teaching yourself in real-time while going through school. The third commonality, Joyce attends to the average student who doesn't present issues to the school. The large majority of people in my cohort were making career changes and were very well adjusted adults who made it through the program with a little hard work, but the second a student started having abnormal issues Joyce takes a "hands off" approach. In my case, for example, Joyce offered absolutely zero help in getting Oregon licensure. This would be no big deal for most people, and in fact I had no issue getting Oregon licensure, but the fact that the school actually made it more difficult for me to get information about Oregon licensure is mildly disconcerting. THE BOTTOM LINE: I made a career switch two years ago and have been working as a very successful new graduate RN since September '23, in debt 50k. Joyce made this possible, no matter how frustrating the program may have been while in the thick of it. Also, take my review with a grain of salt - I had to work full time during school to support myself, meaning I likely didn't utilize all of the available resources from Joyce."
"Highly disappointed and truly upset. I have to admit, this school knows how to market. It almost seems to good to be true, love bombing to the extreme. Once you sign up, your stuck. Each of my semesters were around $9000, ($2000,-$4000 out of pocket) I thought... okay it only 5 semesters for my RN, that makes sense. However, once the rose colored glasses are removed your realize how screwed you really are. You cannot leave the program without finishing or you loose all your credits. The program is very unorganized and have literally changed rules and expectations in the middle of the semester, even staff and instructors are being changed during the semester, and as a student there is nothing you can do. Complaints fall of deaf ears. The school pretends to care and want feedback, but it doesnt change anything. Anyone can look up any cohort Facebook pages and it will show how upset and frustrated each and every cohort is. By the time I finished the program, I was told and my tests showed that I would pass the NCLEX, no problem... 3 tests later, I finally get my RN. I tried to justify my whole experience away and signed up for the BSN program. Nope, poor choice on my end. I took a couple classes and decided to drop the program. It was full of unrealistic expectations and I was done with the inconsistencies. Little did I know, that Joyce never requested funds from FASFA (they have to request them, I cannot, this is directly from FASFA) to pay for the last class I took. Months later, I am getting collection calls. I contacted Joyce to get the information and breakdown of why I owe them money, when I know my financial aid not only covers 100% of my BSN, but I was supposed to get refunded an amount for each semester. They would send me my entire school financial aid history (confusiong and unintelligible) with very vague answers.we do this dance back and forth for many more months with no actual answers and low and behold, I get served papers showing I am now being sued. As of today, (I graduated in 2021) I am being garnished $800 a month for a class that would have been paid in full, if their financial office would have done their job correctly. I am not the only student to have these experiences. It's unfortunately a commen occurrence. This school has shown time and time again, they DO NOT CARE about the student. They just want the money, and at $50,000-$60,000 a student, 200 students a cohort, at least 2 cohorts a year. Id say, they are making enough. Maybe they have too much and thats why I never got my answers and they sued me for $1200. Got to get every dime. Money, that's all they want. Please use my example and stay away. Even if it takes longer, go the traditional route. Better education, better prepared, transparency and peace of mind is far better than a fast unpredictable, unprepared and greedy school."
"The worst experience ever. Don’t waste your money. Between mid-semester changes, firing the best teachers because they were actually advocating for us students, and only prioritizing their money, this school is awful. My capstone experience, among many other students’, was extremely terrible and ill-prepared me for the actual nursing world. When my concerns were brought up with the way the capstone experience was handled and how unfair it was, I was punished. Mykel Winters was particularly difficult to work with and I was in shock with how she handled my situation. Administration just doesn’t care. This school doesn’t care."
"I have been involved with Joyce University for three years. I absolutely love the staff and employees here. Everyone here is always willing to help students succeed. From my experience, most students choose to attend Ameritech because of the cost and the state of the art simulation center....it really feels like a hospital and students can get SO much valuable hands-on experience. Also, Ameritech's clinical relationships with other hospitals/medical centers is excellent and reputable. Ameritech College is definitely an elite program with competitive pricing and a great education. Highly recommend if you want to start working in the nursing field ASAP!"
