"This school is terrible. In fact horrifying. The principal, Crystal Thomas loves making all kids in the morning bow down to her as if she were the queen of the school. If the students don’t stand up, they are told to stand up. As a past student at the school, and with siblings at that school it is very sad to see the way THE PRINCIPAL treats the children. Parents beware, she loves to speak so good about her school, but the way students are treated is unbelievable. Don’t get me wrong, a couple of teachers there( Morris, Lund, Goings, White, and a few others) are amazing, they care about their students at a whole other level. THEY are the reason the school is still up. Other than that. Administration, the office staff, and even Teacher AIDS (TA) emotionally abuse the children. After children do one thing wrong, they aren’t given any chances to improve or be better, they are immediately suspended for 3 days. Not only that, if students are even around those who are doing something “bad” are pulled in to the situation too. When students are suspended any assignments or assessments given those days automatically get a zero, with no chances to make anything up. Also parents, if your child is disabled in anyway, your better off at a public school, there you can atleast get some justice for the way your children are treated. When there is a fire drill they make the children with wheelchairs get down the stairs, BY THEMSELVES and WITHOUT A TA. The principal is so extremely proud of her special ed program and for letting children with disabilities and wheelchairs into their school. YET, there is no ramp and the elevator is always out of order. Children who have wheelchairs have to find a way up the stairs as the office staff, TAs and principals watch without even making an attempt to help. Parents, I just give a warning. Their elementary program is sad and depressing. If you don’t want your children possibly bring trumatized from this treatment, choose a different school. The elementary teachers are not worth it, some eat infront of their students, talk about their relationships outside of school (marriage and more) and have complete mental breakdowns (crying, screaming, sitting out on the stairs to cry) when something doesn’t go their way. The school may have a good reputation BUT the West Jordan location is traumatizing, sad, and not worth your child’s trauma."
"This school is horrible. They handle kids with disabilities and special needs horribly. Without offering TA they expect the students to get through alone. The principal Crystal Thomas is an absolute pain. Her and the VP are extremely lazy with the consequences and immediately suspend any student for the smallest things instead of normal consequences. While there are some amazing teachers who go out of the way to help the students, the root of this institutes problems are the principals."
"The office staff at this school absolutely suck. If you enjoy being disrespected and talked down to this school is for you. The office staff at this school needs to and can do so much better. This ascent branch give this school a bad name."
"I tried to register my son for 8th grade. The office manager called to tell me I had to sign him up for 9th grade. I told her I am holding my son back. She said that is a lengthy process and I would need to speak with the principal. I said that’s fine could she schedule a meeting with her. She said no that isn’t her job and that I can email her myself. I said ok. I emailed the principal asking for a meeting. Then, five minutes later I received a call from the principal. I tried to explain I am holding my son back and she said that is a lengthy process that involves a psych evaluation. I told her that was fine. She said that she was not willing to go through the process for my son to go there. No problem but just the interaction with the office manager and the principal was in my opinion very rude, condescending and the worst experience I have ever had with a school. The principal already made up her mind about my son from a three minute phone call without sitting down to discuss further with me. Ultimately it is her right to deny my son enrollment and I understand but it is the way it was done that I feel shows what type of institution Ascent Academy is."
"sum teachers are really perfect there and really nice to the students and there are sum other teachers who are just takin it to far especially the two principals way to strict and lazy. like by example when a student does something that's not that bad but its disrespectful the consequence i would give is just a 2 day lunch cleaning, but the principles they just don't want to deal with all that so all they do is just suspend them for like a week or 3 days"
