Reviews of Mountain America Museum of Ancient Life at Thanksgiving Point
"Great museum, our family had a blast! So much to see and enjoy, plus there's a new exhibit that just opened! We will definitely visit again!"
"I absolutely love coming here with my kids often with the WIC discount! If you are on WIC, it is only $3 per adult (in the same household). My 3yr old daughter has developed a passion for dinosaurs after being able to take her here the last couple years. There are a couple hands-on experiences. One where kids are able to dig in a well maintained sand area to see the fossils underneath or the water area that allows the kids to manipulate the flow of water with sand and play with toy dinosaurs. My husband and I love to read the facts and displays for the different species and sections of time. This is an impressive museum that is one of our go-tos as a family activity."
"We haven't been here in a while and there are several new attractions. When you enter a new laboratory, you must pay if you want to do a bone activity. There is a new area to watch how they work with microfone for questions. There is a play hut and the bone area now there are 2 different stations. The changes they implemented were quite striking."
"Amazing museum! My brother insisted that I visit it while in town. The huge Dunkleosteus hanging from the ceiling chasing prey is like a prehistoric bass pro setup. The Carboniferous and devonian exhibits are top notch like you have a piece of the seafloor from that era as a reef tank. Never seen anything like it! So much information and detail and so many skeletons and exhibits crammed into a medium sized space. Information rich and visually amazing. I appreciate this place more than huge spacious natural history museum due to the detail. You can tell the people who built it poured their hearts into it. The only thing I could add to this masterpiece is to add brighter lighting to the slice of Carboniferous forest because you could scarcely see all the amazing detail hidden inside. I went through the exhibits twice."
"What a fantastic experience at the Museum! The layout of the museum makes it super easy to navigate and enjoy all the exhibits, even without a map to show you where to go. As for exhibits, there is a great blend between models and actual fossil specimens. There is everything from tiny little sea fossils to enormous dinosaur models and everything in between. There is a little kids interactive zone where they can take plastic skeletons and put them into a model of a dig site, and when we arrived there were 2 employees showing hands on shells, starfish and fossils which was a great addition. At the end of the museum loop, there is a pair of sand filled kids areas where they can use a variety of tools to dig up the fossils underneath. Sadly there is nowhere to dust off after the activity, but it’s a great area for them to enjoy what they just saw in the museum. As for other things in the museum that aren’t the actual exhibit, there was a cafe that was sadly closed, a decent sized gift shop and then up stairs there is a 3D theatre that is around $6 a show for members. Overall this is a great museum to have local and has a wide variety of artefacts and fossils to enjoy for kids and adults too. We loved our visit!"
