"Worst experience. I do not recommend her as an obyn, quite honestly I don't recommend Mercy hospital period. I was in labour two whole days before they decided to give me an emergency c section. A week goes by and I'm sent home, having so much pain so I went back to the hospital a week later. I found out I was septic, stool had leaked inside of me, they cut my lower intestines when they did my c section. I was in the hospital for a whole month, had a vac attached to me for the first 4 months of my first baby being born. Now they are claiming they are not responsible for messing up my c section, my attorney dropped my case even though this lady should of lost her job and there is no reason why I should have lost my case. On top of the whole month I was in the hospital most of the nurses neglected me, I waited an hour sometimes two in my pee or feces waiting on them to take me to the bathroom because I couldn't physically get up."
"I want to start by saying this review is going to be long and detailed. This was my first pregnancy and Dr. Cunningham FAILED me. During my initial prenatal appointment I thought Dr. Cunningham seemed very sweet and understanding. This physician went on at least 5 vacations while i was pregnant during my 9 months. My birth plan was completely ignored. Dr. Cunningham had knowledge that I was taking terazol (know to cause birth defects) during my pregnancy and did not advise me of how this could affect my baby during the first trimester. Looking back at the physicians notes, she stated that I refused early screening for defects or problems with the baby. I was never asked if I wanted early testing, I thought later in my pregnancy that was odd but ignored it. I began to have preclampsia (hypertension) beginning my second appointment (14weeks) with her and my blood pressure slowly got higher as my baby grew. Dr. Cunningham stated that she did not want to perscribe anything because "it wasn't that bad". She later induced me at 39 weeks because of this exactly issue (blood pressure was 144/90). My blood pressure was substantially high that week because of the constant issues with her office not being able to process the paperwork for my FMLA leave. Her office sent my paperwork to the wrong fax twice and did not complete all of it so it had to be faxed again. I was out of work for 2 weeks without knowledge of when I was going to get paid. I was never advised to take baby aspirin (it is advised with those who have had covid) and was completely unaware i was supposed to be taking it until my last ultrasound when the dr who conducted the ultrasound, told me i should be taking it every day. I went through my entire labor and was pressured to not only take blood pressure medication but get an Epidural, which I did not want, because "it would prevent me from having a stroke". I would go on to have an emergency C section and was forced to feel most of it because the second dose of Epidural was not given early enough ahead. The last time I saw Dr. Cunningham was when she cut me open and left another physician to stitch me up. I was not the first person to see or hold my child and my husband did not get to cut the umbilical cord. Dr. Cunningham did not come to check on me the entire time I was in the hospital (48 hours) and when I tried to schedule my postnatal appointment, she was on vacation AGAIN. I feel Dr. Cunningham abandoned my care and it is heartbreaking that I had to have such a horrible experience during my first pregnancy. PLEASE do not make the same mistake I did in choosing her as my OBGYN. A complaint was sent to Mercy but I recieved no response from them."
"From birthing my first born over 9yrs ago to staying my OBGYN after we moved away and came back she is the one I have always felt most comfortable with. She’s always professional & treats you like a friend not just a patient. Highly recommend!"
"Dr. Cunningham had me induced at 37 weeks for NO medical reason. Labor was slow to progress so she broke my water. Somehow she failed to notice the prolapsed umbilical cord that resulted in emergency c-section (that’s when she discovered the prolapse) and nearly cost my son his life. Furthermore, she made me wait in the OR for nearly 20 minutes so she could be there to deliver my child. I could hear the nurses and surgeon talking about whether or not they should start the c-section (since my son was in distress), but they decided to wait for Dr. C to arrive because she insisted. She was also dismissive of my desire for a low-intervention birth. Our appointments were incredibly short and she would always forget things like, for instance to stop a very expensive prescription after the first trimester (I had to ask her about it eventually, which is when she said: oh yeah, you can stop that). She never did fundal measurements unless I asked. She acted like my birth plan was an insult to her medical training. And she FORGOT about my birth at our first postpartum visit. My experience with Dr. Cunningham was traumatic. I 100% recommended that you find another OB."
"I'll start out by stating that Dr. Cunningham is a great doctor and has been great for the delivery of our youngest daughter, so I wish I could rate her separate from her office. But BEWARE her office! They have some of the worst customer service that we've ever experienced. When my wife required ultrasounds/imagery, they scheduled us through Mercy hospital, and if I had not asked the question about billing beforehand it would have ended up costing us around $1200 (give or take). So we had to cancel those appointments and find another ultrasound office outside of Mercy which saved us about 85% of that original amount. Not too big a deal, but raised some caution flags. The office scheduled my wife for an in-office appointment to discuss the ultrasound results. This could have been done virtually or over the phone, however we were not given this option and ended up being billed $100 for nothing more than a short discussion on the results. The same thing occurred one month later... another $100 bill for a discussion on ultrasound results, though there was additional lab work done as well (which we were fine paying). Our biggest grievance came when we called the office (ended up calling 5 times in total from January through March) to discuss the bills we were receiving. At first, I called our insurance and they recommended I call the office directly to see if they could charge us differently since we were charged for an in-office visit when it could have been done virtually or over the phone. On Jan 7, I spoke with Vicki and she said that she would discuss with the doctor if one of these charges could be removed, which I was very happy to hear. I left my phone number, and although she said that she would get back to me and let me know, I never received a call or any other notification (so I doubt this conversation ever took place). On Feb 2, I called the office again, and they said they had no record of any discussion about this. I went ahead and paid for one of the visits and the lab work, asking that they would please speak with Vicki and have the discussion that was promised regarding the first visit. They said 'yes' and said they'd get back to me, but they never did. Between then and now, I've called multiple times and they kept saying that they'd call me back, and finally on the fifth time after talking to a nurse, she spoke to Vicki who then said that she'd speak to her manager (Kelly) and that she would call me (but she never did). The next day I received a call from Autumn who works for Mercy (but not specifically Dr. Cunningham's office, so it appears they passed the buck again) who said that the coders said that the charges could not be reduced. I asked about speaking to Dr. Cunningham and she told me 'no' and that she could not change the billing, which is the opposite of what I'd been told in January. Very disappointed in how we've been treated, especially when we kept being told that things were in the works, and that we'd be called back but never were until the last time, and then were told conflicting information. Shameful. Patients deserve better."
