"My boys absolutely love this school. We have been here since the beginning and am in awe of the wonderful things they get to experience like mindfulness, canoeing, backpacking, hands on math, science, reading and more. They love lunch and the salad bar is their favorite. So greatful for the wonderful teachers and staff at this school."
"We love greenwood! We even tried switching to a closer school last year but quickly learned Greenwood is worth the drive! They have wonderful teachers and a director who obviously cares about all the kids and their families! She’s always at activities and outside visiting with students before and after school. What we love most about the school is their mindfulness program. It’s such an incredible life skill they are teaching our children that will help them in life at least as much as academics. I’m so so grateful for what my kids are learning. They love mindfulness with coach D so much and always look forward to it. In fact today my 9 year old told me he loves coach D and wouldn’t want to go to greenwood with out her. She’s making such a difference! So grateful to have a school that makes an investment in such a great program. We love greenwood!!"
"Things look great from the outside in. But once you begin to research and find out what's really going on from the inside out it's not good at all. Especially 6 through 8th grade. Children are not able to learn and are bullied freely. If you are coming to Greenwood charter school because of the healthy eating and life approach they take, it is very hypocritical. This is our first year in Utah and we were so excited to find Greenwood. Sadly, after a year of students being abused either physically or mentally ( a student was push down in Upper Grove buy a teacher in February. This teacher is a friend of the school director, and she did not want to let him go. She was trying to deny that it ever even happened. Many of us parents made it clear that our children would not be returning if this teacher was not let go. When the proof was too overwhelming she was forced to let him go. I am now and have always been pro-teacher. I have learned to remember that people are only people and it sometimes we do need to listen to our kids! If you want your children to learn and be happy in a safe environment this is not the place."
"Do not enroll your child here if they have any, even mild behavioral issues. Rather than helping a child improve, undesirable behaviors will increase dramatically by the middle of the school year under Greenwood's outdated and unskilled behavior management approach. Greenwood presents itself as a kid friendly school with alternatives to the standard regimented public school model. When you visit there, it appears to be a great place: new building with lots of daylight and cheerfully decorated classrooms Outside is not landscaped, but has garden spots and areas to play in the dirt. Seemingly every kids dream. Thus they attract students whose proactive parents look for alternatives for their child who is not excelling in a standard public classroom. Greenwood is ill equipped to manage behavior issues. Consequences for a hyperactive student who has a hard time sitting still or staying in their seat, is to loose recess privileges ( and any chance to blow off steam) , get kicked out of Yoga and you guesed it, get sent to the principals office and sit in isolation. Parents are pressured to medicate. If they hesitate they receive daily phone calls in the middle of the work day with demands to get their disruptive child, or leave their child in an office (frequently unsupervised) for the rest of the day.. A child learns quickly that in order to avoid this very unpleasant situation, all they need to do is misbehave early in the day and Mom and Dad are forced to get them out of there (at least if they care about their child at all). These are completely outdated and ineffective strategies, demonstrating a lack of current child guidance expertise and understaffing."
"Amazing school, amazing staff, and amazing teachers. My son is a little wild (like most 8 year olds are) and the previous school he was in wasn't sure how to handle him. After a year a Greenwood my son is excelling and doing better then he ever has. He was behind on his reading and the school set up an after school reading program and he jumped 60 words per minute in 2 months. His teacher (Mr. DeMar is amazing) also has "class jobs" for all the students and currently my son is the Mayor and the job and the rewards they receive are awesome. I can not say enough positive things about this school. My only complaint is I'm sad it's only elementary, I think the people who run this school have got it down! So happy with the education and values my son is learning here."
