Fort Supply Historic Site Guardhouse Fort Supply, OK 73841
About the Business
The Fort Supply Historic Site Guardhouse, located in Fort Supply, Oklahoma, is a museum featuring five original buildings and a replica of the 1868 stockade. The site includes rare examples of frontier construction methods, such as picket-style log buildings and frame houses. The guardhouse, built in 1892, is the only brick building erected by the army at Fort Supply and now houses an exhibit area with artifacts, photographs, and graphics. Managed by the Friends of Historic Fort Supply and affiliated with the Oklahoma Historical Society, the site offers a glimpse into the military presence in the area from 1868 to 1894. Currently closed for repairs and improvements, the property will reopen soon in partnership with the Friends of Historic Fort Supply.

"The site was closed for maintenance and upkeep, I parked at one of the entrance gates to view the fort a retired veteran who was a grounds monitor pulled up to the gate to see if I needed any help. I asked him if the fort was permanently closed or just for the season, he said it wasn't for the season but for maintenance and upkeep but. I mentioned to him that I was a Air Force disabled veteran and was interested in our countries historical military installations. He offered me to go to the other entrance to the fort to drive through the fort compound but to stay in the center of the road ways due to the fencing damages of a recent wind storm due to the fencing debris to take pictures but to limit exiting my vehicle and to not approach the buildings to close and maintain a distance back and not to attempt to enter any of the buildings. It was an honor for this privilege to have been this opportunity. He maintained monitoring me from a distance."
