Reviews of Childress County Heritage Museum
"A nice peep into history of Panhandle."
"The lady in the museum had plenty of knowledge of the displays. Mostly self guided so it is a easy going place to unwind a bit and see some real tools from the past."
"The museum has several noteworthy exhibits worth stopping to see. One of them is an origional of the Articles of Surrender for Japan, signed in Tokyo harbor in August of 1945. (several copies were signed for each country repressnted). The next is the twilight painting. I wont spoil it by describing it. It was done before the days of computers and CGI. Extremely clever. And a good painting."
"Great museum of local and regional history with really cool stuff in it including a near-complete Linotype Press system. The curator on duty was fantastic and gave me a detailed tour of some of their most interesting and unique items in the collection. They have some wonderful gems tucked away in that former post office, and there are some incredible stories and people in the histories of small towns. If you're into Texas, railroad, oil/mineral, or military history this museum is well worth a part of your afternoon."
"Great little museum! There is a LOT of history in the museum from when Childress was just a thought through WWII when they trained Army Air Corps. bombediers with the then top secret Norden bomb sight. (they even have one on display!) And information that is more current. Open on Saturdays too!"
