"We had an awful experience with Captain Mack's Catfish Sunday evening. We ordered what we had ordered before, plus extra hush puppies. I couldn't really smell the fish until I got home and opened the cartons. Either the oil was old or something was burned in it because the fish tasted nasty. The outside looked beautiful, but the inside was gray and in some places kind of gooey. I took one bite of one piece and the taste was unpleasant. I broke another piece of fish to look at it and that's when I saw the kind of grayish gooey spot. I refused to eat any more. My husband, who is more generous than I, ate at least two pieces of his dinner then immediately felt nauseous. I believe it was because it was late in the evening. It was still an hour and a half before closing, but there wasn't a single customer in the restaurant. Perhaps they rushed to cook the fish and the oil was too hot and/or overused, resulting in fish that looked done but was not. It's probably safe to eat there at lunch, or early in the evening, but I'm not going to try it again. We spent $35 on food that we threw away. Neither my husband nor I enjoy wasting food. Altogether it was a very unpleasant experience, one I shan't repeat."
"Captain Mack's fries some really good catfish in an excellent cornmeal batter. They offer traditional sides, such as beans, coleslaw, hush puppies, and french fries. It's kind of a hidden treasure because it's in a very old part of town, but if you pass around lunch time you will not find a parking place in the lot. Enjoy!"
"Decent food. restaurant is inside a Mexican restaurant that's good. Portions are okay. I would recommend the Mexican side of the menu."
"Staff was friendly, but that's where the compliment ends. We were passing through town, wanted a sit down meal. We didn't think it was open when we drove up, went in and absolutely no customers besides us on a Saturday night. Chips or salsa was spoiled, maybe both. Salsa had almost no flavor. Husband had to put hot sauce in it to give it a zing. Catfish was watery and greasy. Sweet tea didn't taste right. My husband got a burger and took it with him. When we got back to hotel, he said burger was tasteless and fries were stale, tasted dry. All in all it just wasn't worth it. We'll never stop here again. Very unimpressed."
"First time eating here. The Sirloin Steak Dinner was good. Steaks were a hot item. We were told we would have a wait. It didn't take that long. They were busy. Had to wait on a refill. Staff was very friendly."
