"All three of my kids attend Cross River Therapy. Their BCBA is fantastic and they try to accommodate my schedule. My kids are making progress. I've shopped around and been at a different Center and this is the best."
"My family just moved to NM from CA. We care for my 2 nephews that are on the spectrum. My cousin Mark works for Cross river. I called him and let him know that we won't be enrolled in Medicaid for another few months. He responded "at Cross River we are here to help as many kiddos as we can, and we have a few families that we've been servicing for months without insurance". Coming from other ABA agencies, I was in for a surprise. I've never heard of a Company that really cares about the kiddos more than anything else."
"Cross River has been amazing for my family. The progress made in such a short time made a real difference to our daily life and the professionalism of the staff is outstanding. I highly recommend Cross River for anyone in the Albuquerque area."
"I’ll preface by saying I don’t think it’s impossible to have a positive experience with Cross River Therapy. We began services earlier this year and, up until a few days ago, felt things were going well. I just wanted to voice our experience to caution parents considering ABA therapy through Cross River. We have had a very unexpected and traumatic experience with them. There’s been a lot of BCBA turn over at Cross River. We’ve had 4-5 different BCBAs assigned to our son’s case in under a year. Our first several BCBAs were always willing to work with us and find an approach that fit the needs of our family. We made a lot of cancellations this year due to illness but were told that we should cancel in those instances, as not to spread it. Other than that, all seemed well. We were even told by multiple RBTs and BCBAs that we were a great family to work with—we tried to be involved and continued working on his skills at home after his therapy sessions. Fast forward to our most recent BCBA at Cross River Therapy—we’ll call him “K”. K’s methods were not working for our family. We felt that his communication was lacking and contacted him to request a change in a few of his approaches, though overall we liked the program he created. When we voiced our concerns to K, it was clear K was frustrated and unhappy with our request. After explaining the needs of our family, my husband and I felt that we were coming to a resolution, though K still seemed displeased. At the end our phone call my husband wanted to address a few things more with K, but K hung up on him mid-sentence. We were shocked! But we decided to give K the benefit of the doubt and start fresh going forward. The following Tuesday we received an email from Cross River saying that our services had been terminated. Previously to this, we had received no communication or warning that there was an issue with our case (even though we had just had a phone conversation with K a few days before). We immediately called their office, but they didn’t have an explanation except “it was a decision made by the BCBA (K) and the clinical director,” because we had missed too many hours of ABA due to cancellations—but again, we were told cancellations due to illness were fine. Did they want us to expose our RBT to our child who had a fever and cough? Additionally, there were many sessions cancelled on Cross River’s end (RBTs and BCBAs would get sick, it would take weeks to be assigned new RBTs and BCBAs, etc.). I requested to speak with the clinical director, but they were “in a meeting”. I was told the clinical director would call us back that afternoon, but we received no call. My husband and I tried calling Cross River but they would not answer our calls. My husband called K directly, and he had the nerve to say, “I’m surprised you’re upset about this. You’re not invested in your son’s ABA.” …What?! That was a cruel and unprofessional thing to say to parents who work hard every day to help their son develop skills to succeed in life. This BCBA does not have an empathetic bone in his body, and we are shocked that Cross River allows people like him to work with autistic children. K claimed that he had no influence over the decision to drop my son as a client, but we find that highly unlikely. Though the clinical director may have had the final say, we feel that because K did not like us, he pulled the necessary strings to ensure this happened. This is extremely disappointing because Cross River claims to fight for their clients. To anyone who has a child with autism, you know how traumatic having the rug pulled out from under them can be. Our son is very sad that he suddenly won’t be able to see his friend (the wonderful RBT that worked with him), and it’s devastating he didn’t even get to say goodbye. If you are seeking ABA services for your child, I advise against Cross River. We are disappointed and appalled at the unprofessional behavior of Cross River Therapy and K. They have failed our son."
