Cave Creek Visitor Info Center
About the Business
The Cave Creek Visitor Info Center is a tourist attraction and travel agency located on FR 42 in Portal, Arizona, United States. This institution is dedicated to inspiring appreciation and understanding of the beauty, biodiversity, and legacy of Cave Creek Canyon. Nestled in the Chiricahua Mountains of Southeastern Arizona, Cave Creek Canyon is a hidden gem with spectacular cliffs, flowing streams, and abundant wildlife. Many visitors have compared it to "Arizona's Yosemite."
The area is rich in biological diversity, making it a great spot for birdwatching year-round, with a special abundance of interesting birds from south of the border in the spring and summer. To help protect the area, residents and visitors can join, volunteer, or contribute to the Friends of Cave Creek Canyon (FOCCC), which works closely with the US Forest Service to support conservation efforts in Southeastern Arizona.
The FOCCC hosts events such as the Garden Party in May and Heritage Days in September, featuring professional presentations, live music, crafts fairs, and field day tours. Volunteers are also needed to greet visitors at the Visitor Information Center, and those interested can download a PDF or email vicfoccc@gmail.com for more information. Visit the Cave Creek Visitor Info Center to learn more about this special place and get involved in conservation efforts.

"Volunteers were knowledgeable and very helpful. The exhibits told a lot more about the area and recent research. Open hours are a bit short but most visitors frequent during that time. I overheard someone say that this was "birder central" and they were right!"
"Super helpful volunteer in the store with great local knowledge. Would have been nice to watch the hummingbirds at the feeders except people stood right next to the feeders talking loudly the whole time we were there so no birds came in."
"Went to chase the waterfalls since it had been raining. Amazing place and so much to see. This is a must do with a group f0r camp and hike or even sightseeing. There is a visitor center with the most informative and knowledgeable ranger( I'm guessing he was a ranger). The gift shop is quaint but you will not be disappointed. I had been eyeing this area for a while, and after all my research, my plan was set in place, and more."
"Enter thru Portal, AZ. Do not take an RV trailer longer than 20 feet. Do not attempting to drive across the Chiricahua Mt. Unless you have an offroad or high clearance vehicle. Tent camping is best. Awesome hiking trails. Call ahead for campground reservations. Plan to hike, wall, picnic and lay back on your favorite camping chair. You can do a day trip or stay over night. But if you live more than 2-3hrs away you should leave very early in to morning to take advantage of the sun light"
"This is the visitor center at the foot of Cave Creek Canyon one of the premier birding spots in the US. Don't bird it's still great... Great scenery... Great views... Great to be out in the outdoors. Your pretty far out in the boonies so bring what you'll need... There are stores and some gas stations even a couple of small restaurants but the pickings are pretty thin... Plan ahead. You'll love the place."
