Rough Riders Hotel
About the Business
The Rough Riders Hotel, located at 301 3rd Avenue in Medora, North Dakota, pays homage to the volunteer cavalry unit led by America's 26th President, Theodore Roosevelt. As soon as you step inside, you'll be greeted by a grand hearth reaching up to the tin-tiled ceiling and walls lined with one of the largest private libraries of books on, and by, Theodore Roosevelt.
The rooms at Rough Riders Hotel are a perfect blend of western charm and luxury, featuring walk-in showers marked with the brands of Roosevelt. For those who love 1880s nostalgia, there are historic rooms rumored to have hosted speeches by the President himself.
The historic suite at Rough Riders Hotel is the largest room on the property, offering modern amenities, period-looking furnishings, and a view of the town square. The historic rooms have preserved the original structure of the property, added modern amenities, and feature unique period-looking furnishings.
Guests can choose from rooms with two queen beds, one king bed, or a king bed with handicap accessible features. The tower suite at Rough Riders Hotel boasts a functional balcony with stunning views, a bedroom with a king bed, a sitting area with a sleeper sofa, and a kitchenette.
Cancellation of reservations at Rough Riders Hotel requires a 24-hour advance notification to avoid fees. Pets are not allowed in any guest room, and violating this policy may result in a $300 fee.
The hotel's restaurant, Theodore's Dining Room, offers elegant meals, while TR's Tavern serves signature cocktails and excellent wines. Guests can also enjoy the Medora Musical, described as the rootin’-tootinest show in the west, and play a round of golf at the Bully Pulpit, one of America's Top 100 Public Golf Courses.
Rough Riders Hotel aims to preserve the special place that is Medora and provide guests with positive, life-changing experiences. Visit foundation.medora.com to learn more and support their mission.

Reviews
"Very clean and quiet rooms. Modern amenities throughout. The restaurant has great service and great drinks, as well as desserts. Friendly staff. If you're in the area, this is the place to stay!"
"The tiles in the shower have the cattle Brand from Teddy Roosevelt's Ranch. The check-in went smoothly. Breakfast was nice and I was pleased they could accommodate my gluten allergy- I had chorizo egg scramble with hash Browns substituted for fried potatoes. The room was very clean and tidy. I liked everything except there was no view and the bed could have been slightly softer. Lots of stuff is closed on Mondays, like the Cowboy museum."
"I rarely write reviews of places now that I travel so frequently for work but this place deserves five stars and more. First of all - it is like stepping back in time in a wonderful way, the bar staff is second to none, and the food is unreal. The rooms are perfect and everyone is friendly as can be. For my brief story, and I am reluctant to call people to task but it is really worth noting for your trip, I was fully booked at the Wyndham down the road, paid in full, and upon arrival they told me they had cancelled my reservation no notice. I asked had they emailed, called, anything, they said it wasn't there responsibility to do so and they couldn't be ruder. Totally not indicative of Medora or North Dakota more broadly. I walked over to the Rough Rider and they worked it out to get me a room even with a busy weekend and a packed hotel - on top of it they gave me the standard rate, no fees or nothing. Jolene, the woman at the front desk, was the sweetest person at the place and must be working on being beatified, in my mind she's a saint already. I wish I remembered every other staffers name because they were all so great. If you are staying in Medora, this should be your first choice. You will never forget the experience and if you are still deciding on a trip - go to North Dakota, it is truly a wonderful place."
"Great little hotel. The dining room is worth a try. We had a wonderful breakfast. I highly recommend the Bison Eggs Benedict. Rooms were comfortable and matched the area. If you are looking for a themed experience that doesn’t scream chain hotel but feels in class with any 3 or 4 star hotel - give this hotel a chance."
"We were pleasantly surprised with how much we loved this hotel. The building is beautiful, the room was great, and you are less than a half mile from the entrance to the park as well. Medora is a charming little town to relax in, and to top it off, Theodore's restaurant in the hotel was the best meal of our 7 day trip."
