"Update: since the new management team took over, things have really improved here. They fixed some doors/access points that were major safety concerns, have responded positively to negotiations on rent increases, and recently got a secure package box to address all the package stealing issues. I'm very happy with the changes. I love the location and how generally quiet the apartment is. The apartments are nice and have good appliances, including a washer/dryer in my studio, which is hard to find for the price point and location. However, the poor management over the past ~year has really made me dislike living here more and more. There are constant problems (stolen packages, car breakins in the "secure" garage, broken garage door that took months to fix, both doors leading to the street broken and/or open to anyone, callbox not working etc), and emails about these issues almost never get a response. A resident's dog attacked another dog and a visitor of mine on two different occasions and nothing was done. I hope that the new ownership/management can turn things around, but otherwise, I'll be moving when my lease is up."
"Edited to give a better rating: Shoutout to Kenya for being super helpful! The people who I actually see in person are super great, but four star has been largely unhelpful when I call. The rent they listed online for my current apartment is less than the price they offered me for renewal, don't move in if you are planning on living long term. Building does not feel secure as well. Disappointed because they would not work a deal with me to reduce my rent price but will offer a cheaper price to a new tenant."
"Since changing management, Highland Place Apartments have truly become a place worth living at. Our new property manager, Sam, is excellent and always on top of it. His dedication to rehabbing this property is notable. Cookies for all. Previously, under BLDG Management, this place was terrible. We were without air conditioning last summer for almost 9 weeks. Smelly carpets and 4 week wait times for any maintenance requests were routine and tenants had started organizing to class action the property management company. Since changing hands, our windows have been replaced, our air conditioner has been fixed, the smelly, filthy carpets have been replaced throughout the building and our packages have stopped getting stolen. It's like night and day. There are many features about living here that make the rent worthwhile--a small gym, lovely common room, a rooftop patio as well as a beautiful outdoor terrace and fire pit for enjoyment year round. Our neighbors are friendly and there's some sense of community here. We never hear our neighbors blasting music or television. Some improvements can always be made to any property and ours is no exception, but compared to places I have lived previously, it's a nice place to call home and you get a lot for the money and location. Our rent is quite reasonable as compared to the new "luxury" building across the street where rents for one bedrooms start at $3,000.00. Shops are within walkable distances and the neighborhood is quiet and beautiful."
"Zero stars is more accurate. The level of communication from the property management company is unacceptable. It is virtually impossible to get a response back from anyone associated with the apartment complex or BLDG Management. I suspect that they are only communicating with potential tenants and ignoring everyone else. I didn’t hear back for almost a month after giving my notice to move out. I am owed $250 for my security deposit and I can’t get ahold of anyone. They do not answer their phones and do not respond to emails. I question if the way they operate is even legal. Do not move here. It is going to cause you a major headache."
"I have lived at Highland Place for 2 years. I don’t have any complaints at all! Besides the insane neighbor we had to deal with for the first six months. She is the only one that left a one star review on here and she has some issues for sure. I would get cops at the door at 7am while I was SLEEPING because she called a noise complaint in. This would happen daily until the police just straight up told her they wouldn’t respond to her calls anymore. I’ve never had an issue with any other neighbor and in fact became friends with a couple, the building is chill...besides the one crazy neighbor that is gone now. Hannah the property manager is very accommodating and a great property manager. Always communicative and friendly, deals with any issues immediately. The matainence squad is killer and also super friendly. The only issue we ever had was the garbage disposal stopped working...they were out the next day and fixed it while I was at work. Solid location, affordable for the area and would recommend to anyone. Rooftop patio is my favorite."
