"Do not book with Zippy Shell/Pack Rat. I booked months in advance before we knew our address. When I booked apparently the zip code I gave was in their radius, a month prior to our move when I gave them our new address they said it was several miles outside of their radius. They gave me two options- come to their facility and move all of my belongings (2 containers worth of household items) into my own vehicle or pay $300 extra per container for someone else to come deliver. A man working for pack rat called and he kindly negotiated down to just $300 extra, saying he’d rather keep me as a customer than not be able to provide a service to me. I went with it. Fast forward to when the containers are picked up from point of origin- I called several business days after on the 13th of the month. I asked when the containers would be delivered. I was told they would be delivered no later than the 23rd. I thought “ok, that’s longer than the 8-10 business for travel as is advertised but I’ll make it work.” No! That is 8-10+ business days for them to get it from their origin warehouse to destination warehouse! Not from when they pick it up at your house to your new place. When I discovered this I asked them to go back to the recording of the gentlemen telling me it would be delivered no later than the 23rd. I spoke with Ashley, she called me back and said that the man told me it’d get to the FACILITY by the 23rd, not my house. I’m certain that difference was not emphasized in that phone call but Ashley said that I could not listen to the recording and that she has no reason to lie to me. Ok… Then, what’s even better, is they acted like they had NO IDEA my containers needed to be scheduled for delivery. When I called to schedule the soonest they could deliver was 8 days later and that I would have to pay another $400 fee for gas! I’ve worked in logistics for 12 years. Two key traits of logistics- you forecast and you plan. How Zippy Shell/Pack Rat can run a moving company without forecasting all of these “fees” and plan this move in their drivers’ schedules is beyond me. On top of all of this, I received yet another surprise charge- the first month’s rent ($478). Knowing to ask questions before I commit, this was a specific point of conversation that was had when I booked the containers. The gentleman booking the reservation on the very first call confirmed that the first month’s rent was included in the payment (payment broken in two payments). I read back through the contract- it states “customer shall pay the Monthly Rental Fee in advance of the delivery of the containers…” Ashley called me back after I requested again she go back through the recordings, tells me I’m wrong again, even though it’s in the contract. In total- almost $1200 in surprise charges and fees. Go somewhere else for your move- You-Pack, U-Haul, PODS, find someone else!! Just not these people! I’m generous on the two stars, only because the delivery drivers were kind and technically proficient in their placement of the containers."
"DO NOT USE. Military/DOD you have been warned. We thought we'd save a few bucks by using zippy shell/pack rat. They destroyed and even lost items. $1500+ They refused to pay back after making us wait for their decision. According to the email they sent back after making a claim, my bicycles' handlebars bent themselves, my bed up and left the container, and various other items committed furniture suicide apparently. Their "investigation" determined all my property damage was due to bad packing. SUPER FRIENDLY customer service when booking. Then ghosted when they destroy your property. Pay the extra few bucks and go with the "name brand" movers. Save yourself the headache. Absolute joke and they should be investigated for fraud. Be warned- your stuff actually goes in a CAGE inside the container. Said cage is removed at their hubs and your property is treated like trash. Not even remotely worth the $300 I thought I was saving by not using the "other" company."
"Steer clear of this company. They will take your money and treat you and your belongings like trash. Zero concern for the customer experience, I have no idea how they are in business. I requested a call back when an agent was available and they called back, and now I’ve been on hold waiting for 45 minutes just to get my payment info updated. Why not just have someone call when available? When the driver arrived to drop my shipment he certainly didn’t pay attention to details like if I’d be able to open the shell doors, if the unit was level, plus, the condition of the shell was abysmal and all beat up. Just hire a full service moving company and take your money anywhere else…"
"Thick black dust and silver speckles on all our items when we got them out of the pod. Major pain to clean - would have been better off not getting a pod and buying all new stuff instead. Movers wouldn’t wear shoe coverings of any kind (including provided booties) to keep our carpets clean. Several items were dinged and dented."
"Zippy had great response when they needed money.. But after they took our stuff horrible communication. Our stuff got to Colorado a lot sooner than planned, but instead of calling to let us know, they just sat on it for over a week.. Our expected delivery was on Monday. We called on Friday to see when it would be there. And they pushed it out another week because they didn't have anyone to deliver. However, if they would have called when our staff got here, we could have gotten our stuff before it was a week and a 1/2 late. Spent over $7000. They said they would give us a $200 credit. 2 weeks later, still haven't received it."
