Reviews of Mesilla Valley Transportation
"This company is very unprofessional when it comes to treating employees drivers are very under paid and taken advantage of"
"I’m giving 2 stars, should be 1, but I liked what I saw at the El Paso terminal. This is why I think trucking companies send you to the HQ’s a lot for training. It’s to make it all look nicer than it is. That location has a nice setup, though for my local driving position in Denver, not even remotely accurate or even applicable. Anyway, now to the actual experience. $25 hr straight pay no OT (Not good, but I accepted it) 5am-5pm approx may be more and maybe less 4 days on 4days off rotating, meaning one week you start on Monday next week Tuesday and week after Wednesday and so on…which means theres times you only get a 3 day check…not good pay at all. $25 an hour straight pay in any sort of trucking is highway robbery to be honest. You take just as much risk as OTR drivers maybe more as you’re consistently in city traffic, still dealing with the elements, and actually drop and hook or back up way more than an OTR driver. 3 days 2 Nights orientation in El Paso, TX with promise of $500 completion pay on your first check (Which they didn’t give me) I drove down instead of them flying me as it’s not that far from Denver. The ad said flight. They were going to reimburse my for my travel…the recruiting said yes but then said they’d reimburse me a bus ticket…RT it’s approx $60 that’s less than half my roundtrip money on gas. First day of work right out of the gate, my trainer I was supposed to ride with did absolutely no pre-trip (he knows his truck) I’m sure one was put in the tablet though. Oh and his truck ignition didn’t work, took 4-5 or more times to finally get it started (imagine my excitement) Next was sitting for about 2-3 hrs at a shipper. I wasn’t too happy with that as I really thought it was more about moving loaded trailers from various yards to our yard. Those hours in a day cab will suck. I was exhausted on my first day as I had gotten no sleep excited for work and how the day would go. Regardless just sitting in my truck for hours on end is already bad, now it’ll be in a day cab. Blah!!! 11 hours later, we get back to the yard, seems like we’re done, and then I meet my dispatcher that does an impromptu “local orientation” we’ll call it. During this I’m told that they have a dress code, which is fine especially if you have uniforms which they don’t. I’m told I can’t wear shorts? Really, in trucking? I’m sitting in a truck for 10-14 hours a day and can’t be comfortable? Not to mention I wore shorts for 3 days at orientation, and all day my first day and heard nothing about this until the end of my day (which then he wanted us to make one more run after his presentation) so my conclusion is, communication is probably not their strong suit. As he did his orientation I was thinking about how, I’m tired, I now know I can’t wear shorts, it’s not a bench seat in the day cab so you can’t even stretch out while just sitting, AND you want me to go for another run…for straight pay. No thank you. No shorts for me was a deal breaker, even in Winter, I’m still in shorts. If you’re thinking about working at MVT I’d look into their OTR positions, better money, they have some great policies regarding winter driving, avoiding I-70 and I-80, and great incentives and competitions for MPG both quarterly and annually. Those contests don’t apply to local drivers though. Their routes are kind of “triangle” based, an example would be El Paso>Dallas>Denver>El Paso designed to give you home time at home, well wherever home is. Consistent miles etc. Had my recruiter asked more questions about what I do and don’t like about driving we would of ended up on me being OTR, but in my sleeper cab I would have worn shorts while driving and changed to pants at the shipper/receiver who would know? LOL Oh they do have inward and outward facing cameras just so you know. That’s it, good luck out there drivers. If you want local and can live off of $25 an hour, then great and good luck."
"Someone literally came to the job threatening to shoot up the place and he still works there without a single write up. Police were not called. HR pressed one of the drivers who witnessed it to walk back their statement. Update: Of course you have no record of the incident. Your HR is extremely corrupt and illegally refusing to report on multiple incidents, both written and unwritten. They’re the reason you’ll be hearing from EEOC soon. I hope you’re ready."
"Was recruited and invited to attend training in El paso. This company diclosed, they work their drivers 12 hours a day, 4 days a week, and are not required to pay overtime. Of all the local companies in Colorado, this is the only one, practicing this policy. It needs to be investigated and changed if such a policy is legal. This is why companies in states like Texas shouln't even operate here in my opinion. Disgraceful."
"Terrible experience working here!! Management was bad on several levels, cost me my truck, personal belongings stolen from me, was stranded on a long distance run, forced to drive busted equipment.......never going back here to work again!! I'll flip burgers quicker!!!"
