"My wife and I have been trying to transfer 401k funds to another provider for over 2 months. It is obvious that they get paid from total money under management and will make it impossible for you to transfer funds. 7 phone calls over 2 months, docs submitted 3 times. Zero progress. Customer service is worse than useless, they are actively misleading, telling you to fill out forms that aren't required. Wouldn't be surprised to find out that they are monetarily disincentivized to let money be transferred out. So disappointing. If you are an employer looking for a management firm, please consider someone else."
"Wow, Empower did screw up the Prudential transition in February. . Can you imagine a company sending out statements zeroing out account balances but not sending out statements showing where the money moved? Their systems are horrible. I wasted four hours of my day trying to straighten out simple issues - long waits online and incorrect information transferred amongst five or six people always with a weight I wouldn't trust this company to hold $20 with systems/procedures that are weak amd overall operational sloppiness."
"Worst 401k I ever had. Very few processes can be completed on the website & customer service is gated behind the world's most irritating phone tree. update: have to deal with their phone tree/voice recognition again due to their failure to send me a tax form. 'Irritating' probably isn't the right description — 'enraging' is more apt. I went to the DMV a couple weeks ago and it was a 10x better experience."
"I finally get in touch to the right department, I have a question dealing with dividends that suppose to add to my portfolio, but instead they bring down the value of my funds in the amount of the value of dividends and then added the dividends the next day! In reality there is no change in the amount of my funds! I ask the register service department and he said that he cannot answer my questions! He refer me to the fidelity 500 index company! He should help me to find the right answer to my question instead he just pass it own to me to talk to fidelity! What a customer service!"
"Terrible customer service. Customer service can’t find my account while I’m literally giving them my SSN. I now have to notarize a form and physically mail it to their office, hoping it’s received, to have my account info updated so I can access my 401k. Moving my 401k funds to another company immediately."
