"Update: after an extremely financially difficult 2017 due to job changes, I was unable to pay off the remaining balance with this firm. I called to get my tax documents from 2016 so I could file a return and work out a payment arrangement with Thomas Rodriguez and was told the only way I could get my tax documents was if I brought in $200 cash. I told him it was illegal to withhold my documents from me and he begin to yell at me and said "This is not up for discussion, bring $200 cash tomorrow and you can have your documents" This seems like very shady practice to me. Unfortunately I made the mistake of not shopping around for a tax accountant this year and chose this business based on a positive referral from a former co-worker. So, this isn't entirely Thomas E Rodriguez & Associates fault that I am giving this rating. I thought that Thomas was very friendly and seemed to genuinely care about my financial situation. It was a little frustrating when we were going through my "business expenses" from last year because every time I would give him an answer as to what I paid for travel, work supplies, etc... he didn't seem to really like my answer and seemed to want to persuade me to answering differently with a higher amount by saying "Well, Emily, if you spent money while dining out for work then it would only be X amount... are you sure you didn't spend more than that?" which... in hindsight, based on what I told him, I don't even think I would qualify for write offs... but that didn't stop from pressing for a different answer. I was satisfied to learn I was going to be receiving a return, but when I was told that it was going to cost me $715 I was shocked. I don't have complicated taxes. It should have been pretty straight forward, maybe he's used to dealing with people who have a lot of write off's. There were some things that he had to work with the IRS on for me and I thought the $265 was fair for that, but shocked when it was an addition $450 for my tax return for 2016. I guess there's a reason he's been in business over 50 years and I'm the first person to review... For being so experienced and professional it's shocking to me that I can't find anything online, not even a website. I think I"m more disappointed in myself but maybe they should start giving people estimates to avoid sticker shock."
