"This is my psychologist, and is the best and most effective one I've ever had. I like that she will talk about the neuroscience behind why you do things and think the way you do. She's helped me a lot and I've found that she gives me ideas for actions I can take to improve my condition, something I've not found with other psychologists I've had. I also like that she is also a performance enhancement coach (or something like that), which means she's kind of got a path she's leading you along to a destination and believes you're willing to do some work on your own to get better (she suggested I meditate during the week to change my brainwaves and have better control over my thoughts and emotional state and talked with me about the science behind it). I think the other psychologists I've had just wanted to help me cope with a medical condition that can't be changed by anything but meds (and they seemed surprised if I actually did anything they suggested between appointments, so perhaps it was their clientele that gave them that expectation). With Dr. Alchin, I've found that there are things I can do on my own that will help me get better in addition to seeing her for counseling, and I am very happy with her services. In our appointments, I feel like I'm talking with a friend--an educated, intelligent friend who is interested in really helping me. I even report what I've learned about the brain and behavior to my family members when I get home and they all think she's a genius for knowing so much helpful information that even applies to them. I can't express in words how grateful I am to have her as my doctor and how hopeful I feel about my future because of her assistance. I'm feeling SO much better with her treatment, even though my meds situation with my other doctor isn't going well. She is very empowering and I honestly know I can do things to help myself and make things better. I wasn't going to bother with a psychologist, but decided to try her out anyway, and I think she's helping more than my psychiatrist, and that's pretty amazing for the conditions I happen to have (severe depression, OCD, anxiety), since (as I mentioned before) I'm not having much success with the meds I'm taking. Anyway, I recommend her unreservedly. I'm much happier as a result of having her help."
