Center for Autism and Related Disorders - Lakewood
About the Business
The Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD®) in Lakewood, Colorado, is a leading institution in the successful treatment of autism. Founded by renowned autism expert Dr. Doreen Granpeesheh, CARD has been making a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals with autism for over three decades. Located at 198 Union Boulevard, CARD offers center-based services that provide one-to-one applied behavior analysis (ABA) sessions for children, adolescents, and adults.
Early intervention is key to improving a child's development, and research has shown that early, high-intensity intervention for 2-4 year olds can maximize their potential for success. The CARD Model utilizes ABA techniques to target customized treatment goals for each learner, helping them achieve optimal outcomes for lifelong success and happiness.
The institution is dedicated to excellence in client care and strives to equip each child with the skills they need to succeed. Resources on autism spectrum disorder, research, public policy, and more are available on the institution's website. Skills® is a comprehensive resource for creating and implementing treatment plans, while ABA is recognized as the most effective treatment for autism.
If you are interested in starting ABA services for your child, you can contact CARD at Enrollment@centerforautism.com. Please note that CARD does not provide diagnostic services, so an independent evaluation is necessary to determine if ABA is the right treatment for your child. Your child will receive an evaluation to identify their strengths and areas of need, and individual treatment recommendations will be made based on this assessment.

Reviews
"I started working for CARD in August of this year. I made the decision to go into ABA therapy as I have always enjoyed interacting and working with individuals with ASD. My review is going to be transparent about my experience working at this center. I wasn't sure what to expect when I started here, I was concerned based off the reviews but did receive some reassurance knowing I would be part I read before applying. However I didn't let this completely sway my decision in applying to this center. My reasoning is the famous saying of "the only way to go is up" once I was given my job offer letter to be the Assistant Coordinator I was eager and excited to start getting to work improving the center for the benefit of its staff and especially the clients current and future Since then I have gotten to work closely with all current staff and what has given me confidence in the potential for this center was seeing the recurring dedication of the Operation Manager and Behavioral Therapists have for current and new clients. I have witnessed the staff here be humbled and learn from the past mistakes including putting the hard work to not repeat those mistakes. I have also witnessed the joy and passion that the staff here have with seeing growth within the clients we work with. The staff here wants to see our clients continue to grow and excel and by default see the center continue to thrive. This center does have a rough past that the staff including myself are working hard with action and not just words to rise from and make a new name for itself here in the community to be a resource for families and individuals with ASD to have confidence in coming to for reliable ABA therapy. I myself have been in the work force for 25 years I have done multiple jobs including working in Jefferson County Public Schools for 10 years, this is the first time I have done work that doesn't feel like a job. I continue to look forward to coming in everyday and seeing more growth and progress from our clients. As a proud parent myself I know you cant always put full trust in a review from someone who works at the same place of business. With that in mind if my review has given you any interest in inquiring about the ABA services our site provides I encourage you to give our center a call or even stop by for more information. Thank you for taking the time to read this review and we hope to hear from you soon."
"When my son first started here he wasn’t fully using three word sentences at the age of 5. They have really taken on pushing my son to not only use three words or more but pushed him to use his ACC device also. They have given both time and patience to understanding my sons needs and his behaviors. I am truly grateful to Zach and his whole staff at CARD. They always keep me in the loop about where my son is in his therapy as well as needs he may have that are constantly changing. My son is so happy to attend therapy every day and play with his peers as well as his therapist."
"CARD Lakewood is a great place for kids with ASD and related disorders. They offer ABA therapy and smiles."
"I am a father of an Autistic Boy who attended this center When we went to this center (Lakewood Center) we met the center BCBA A mid age woman Who claimed to be a researcher, She Convinced us after initial evaluations that our son should be withdrawn from school and attend the full time program, And so we did Our son started with an excellent therapist but we noticed that they were switching our son between therapists all the time. That alone didn't seem right but on top of that our son started to demonstrate resentfulness towards his mom which never happened before. Knowing our son we weren't sure where he is learning this but it was pretty obvious it was at therapy. to make sure we asked to change therapists, The BCBA refused and asked to meet us . After this we came to pick our son and he came straight to me and not to mom. My wife got frustrated and this effected our life sat home also The second time we came to speak about the issue because my wife was frustrated and told the BCBA she is thinking about a divorce if things don't Improve. The BCBA advised us to get family therapy which we accepted. The next day we came to the center and continued to have a small argument and The BCBA put her hand on my shoulder in a way that seemed intimate in front of my wife. This caused a lot of stress at home between us. Once again The BCBA scheduled a meeting that meant to improve the dynamics between us and our son . Every time The BCBA left the room for something she repeated the inappropriate touch on my shoulder. Once again in front of my wife. They started a demonstration of how to have a family hug together. I hinted to her that there was something inappropriate in these actions. for the sake of our sons treatment we accepted everything that had happened and were willing to continue. Only that our sons behavior continued to decline . Once again we requested to change therapists and were told its not possible because there were not enough therapists at the center. But our son was the only patient in the center at the time. Only after a month did a new kid come. They had therapists who could substitute. We demanded they swap therapists and even so Continued to encounter Our son with the same therapist. After we got upset and demanded to swap therapists she said it wont happen. As a result We told her to her face she was disrespectful towards me by touching me... From there it escalated and we ended up leaving and calling 911 because we felt extremely disrespected. After the cops were there and spoke to us they also spoke to her and she convinced them she was innocent. Since then our son doesn't have therapy because we are traumatized by this. We put a complaint to the supervisors and to the state license and of course nothing was done. This shows us we are not protected in case our kids our being mistreated at their frames and anyhow it seems this place focused more on the parents than the kids who are treated ."
