"Trying to get my son in kindergarten is getting complicated- the website says they are connected to Bromley east charter when really it’s a separate application to the school itself - two months no communication from the school or district as we get closer to school starting I get put in a waiting list one day before the start of school Tried changing school on our application and the district tells me to call the school Bromley east says I’m on the waitlist Now I guess I am literally googling schools on my own and making phone calls to find availability on the 1st day of school when a simple school choice change should be something the DISTRICT can assist me with seeing as the application for school clearly states SD27j I Get No Help What is the district office for if they can’t assist the parents in enrollment before school starts? The staff and teachers have enough on their plates that this sounded like a DISTRICT issue but ok sd27j……….I’ll play along"
"Teachers, Be sure to read your contract before signing. This district operates differently. Due to their low funding, HR guards the $$$. They may even get bonuses for saving money while setting salaries. (Educated guess) HR did not demonstrate what I consider to be professionalism. Proceed with caution."
"I believe this district is one of the best public districts. If it’s to harsh, expensive, not good enough, might as well move your kid to a private school so they can “ learn “ more. If you didn’t know what public means, it means all kids can go there without and entry fee. Money is hard right now and as a public school, it must be hard. Kids enjoy their time there and I don’t know why other kids aren’t, if that’s a problem for your kids, you yourself can do better."
"Probably the worst district I have ever dealt with. As a public school, they do a horrible job to ensure the population of students is being served. If you need transportation, good luck! I live in Eastgate Village but apparently, no bus comes inside this area unless your child is special needs. My daughter goes to Vikan and though it is a few miles away, it falls in their 1.5 mile boundary line, again, even though we are clearly further out. The excuse is a shortage, yet I see or hear nothing about how this is being solved. Do better for the population you serve. The boundary lines are absolutely ridiculous especially as a household that has shared custody."
"My kids have been in the district for 5 years now and we love our Elementary School and all the teachers they have had so far. The district is notoriously underfunded but the quality of education my kids are receiving is great, no complaints. We personally love the 4 day week, although I know it’s not a situation that works well for everyone."
