"Westlake Middle School has an AMAZING way of making the kids feel welcomed and prepared for high school. I used to tutor the kids at Legacy High School (in math) and the incoming Westlake kids were leaps and bounds ahead of the rest! I love that they go out of their way to make the 6th graders feel comfortable with their transition as well. We love the teachers and administration and could not think of a better place for our kids!"
"THIS SCHOOL SUCKS!!!! I tried changing cores, but the counselers would not let me and the lunchs here sucks! This school says there are going to stop and prevent bullieing but when it happens they do nothing butt calling down all the kids who were inviolved and letting them explain the story and then because they were called down everyone will make up stories and spreed the gossip, just to make matters worse. All in all this school sucks."
"My son attends this school. I would like to address some of the issues listed in other comments. Lunches, don't bother bring your own, saves time to have to wait in line and then gulp down the unappetizing food. Last year 2015-2016 the bullying was horrific and when reported excuses were made and nothing done. However both the Principal and Asst Principal were replaced at the end of last year (after the sex scandal that hit all the news outlets) and this year was down right pleasant. Sure the school is run down but I found the teachers care and were very willing to help as they could. Autistic kids are treated with utmost care and consideration. I assume this also goes for the hearing impaired but I do not have experience with their teachers. I think the biggest issue I saw this year was the front desk staff, they have a woman that is horrible, airhead does not come close to what I am to pleasant to say. Thank goodness she moved to another position (ok only a desk over) and they have a new gal that you have to speak with when you pick up your children for appts, The new gal is very nice and helpful. All in all now that they have new leadership it is a decent enough school. Could improvements be made - of course but nothing is drastic. We all know Middle School is HARD no matter where you go and seriously there are much worse schools than this one!"
"I go here but the lunch monitors are very strict, and I also don't feel so safe, and people smoke outside, but there are really nice teachers like Mrs. Skattum she is my favorite teacher. Also, in the chicken nuggets, I found pink beady things that aren't ketchup. And one day, the mean lunch lady took my lunch away because I didn't have enough money, and they replaced it with DINNER ROLLS, SOME SALAD, AND WATER. THAT'S ALL THEY GAVE ME, AND I'M A TERRIBLE EATER. That was despicable. The only thing I really like about this is that there are nice teachers, and the fact that we don't have assigned lunch tables. BUT, the lunch monitors DID threaten to give us assigned lunch tables because we were just talking when they were, and poor 7th graders have assigned lunch tables. The counselors are also very nice."
"Secretary's desk Staff are very inconsistent!!! Teachers don't seem to take time to teach, however they do spend their days teaching children how to pass their tests, Not necessarily their fault they are doing what the district wants b/c of course those teachers want a paycheck, all though I think some of the older teachers should stand their ground. 7th grade math teacher teases autistic children, to the point of tears & the class laugh and tease right along with the teacher. Very sad That So Many Kids feel unsafe at Westlake middle school! Guess I'm grateful my daughter's not getting teased but the things she tells me and the stuff I've seen are heartbreaking. If you want a school with only high test scores & no morals or values this us the school for you & your kids...Guess I just described all denver/metro area schools. .."
