Reviews of Grand Valley Veterinary Emergency Center, A Thrive Pet Healthcare Partner
"Dr Joy and her team took great care to make sure my Boston Terrier, Rocky, was well taken care of. Though our visits was for less-than-ideal reasons, I left feeling reassured my boy was in good hands. I can’t thank everyone there enough for what they did to make sure he was comfortable and I was well informed. AND, I’m happy to report Rocky is recovering well and hasn’t lost a step yet! Thanks again!!!"
"On December 16th at around 11:00 pm, my cat had suddenly collapsed and was unresponsive. I rushed him to this clinic, and I requested he be seen immediately as he was diabetic. The staff immediately got him back to the veterinarian. I was very upset, but the staff was very kind and understanding. The veterinarian was empathetic when he reported to me that my cat was dead, and most likely from heart disease, and not diabetes or hypoglycemia. They provided me with a burial box, and never requested any payment for their services. Even though I lost my cat, I so appreciated their immediate attention and kindness. I will not hesitate to use this clinic again in an emergency situation."
"If I could give this place 0 stars I would… My wife and I will never be taking any of our fur babies/pets here ever again! To start we had brought our cat in because my wife and I had gotten home a month ago and it had looked as if our cat have had a stroke and the doctor in charge that took her back and saw her immediately which we thought was a blessing at the time. After waiting for approximately 15 minutes, My wife and I were told that our cat had a brain tumor and we were left with a decision to make that was very very hard on us to make because our cat was like a child to us. We were given the option of $1,000 worth of testing to verify if it was for sure a brain tumor or infection which could not be certain she would survive if regardless of testings/ treatments or the option of euthanasia. While trying decide on our options which took us 30 mins or so to talk over while being heart broken. About every 10 minutes or so the doctor or somebody I believe who was the doctor kept coming out and asking us what our decision was and if we made a decision yet. One of those times, they asked us if she passes in the back do we want to resuscitate. So my wife and I were under the impression it was worse than what we thought so We made the best decision that we could that she wouldn’t suffer. After our decision, We went through an hour of saying goodbye and praying over her as we were not ready to say goodbye, and she was put to rest. We were told that same night that we would have her back in a few days as we had chosen to cremate her and have her paw prints. Two weeks go by and we end up calling and asking if she is ready just to be told it will take 4 -10 weeks before her ashes or anything could be picked up. While on the phone we had said that’s not what we were told. The person who answered the phone was a bit rude and said well that’s our policy and what we tell everyone, but then I had said that is not what they had told us the night we had brought our cat in. Then the person on the phone stated that the doctor that was working shouldn’t have told us different, that the doctor that was working is a shift filler/ travel doctor and they should’ve known not to tell us that…. I told them they shouldn’t be lying to people and that 4 - 10 weeks is ridiculous and they should have told us the truth. then I was told that is the standard time it takes is 4-10weeks and with the holidays coming up people are out of town. Well 2 weeks later till (today) my wife and I get a phone call saying that our cat is ready for pickup at 7:20 in the morning. We go in to pick up her ashes and there were two lady’s sitting at the reception desk and asked us what we were there for and my wife said that we are here for our cat and says our cats name, then they asked us what the last name was, and I had said our last name and then one lady stood up and said oh good, let me get that. we could hear her open a drawer behind the wall that behind the reception desk she comes back around to puts our cats ashes on the counter instead of handing it to us and says “here’s that for ya” my wife and I were so stunned and hurt about how heartless these people are and how much they don’t care! Never in our lives have we been treated with such disrespect! Again our cat was like a child to us and not only have we gone through such great pain of loosing her we had to endure the rudeness of this facility and staff and being lied to! So never will we ever bring any of our pets/ fur babies here ever again! Not only that after my wife and I got to our car in such disbelief that we were handed our baby being called “that” we opened the can she was in and smells like a bag of flax seed flour…. The supposed ashes don’t look or smell smoky at all! We are talking about getting the ashes tested because with they way is smells and looks is not of ashes. The paws print we received are of a very soft material like an air dry that’s still malleable as if it was just made. We are heartbroken at how numb they are to this."
"We noticed on thanksgiving that our 14 year old guy was having some shortness of breath and by Sunday he was having extreme difficulty breathing so we brought him in. We were expecting that he might have pneumonia or maybe even congestive heart failure. Dr Emily took him back right away got some X-rays and gave us news that we NEVER expected. His lungs were full of cancer. She was so kind. She gave us our options and let us talk about it. Although we could have opted for palliative care his disease was far too advanced to give us more than a few days with him. We opted for euthanasia. The staff at the clinic were so kind and understood the pain we were going through. It was such a hard decision but they were so gentle and compassionate. I felt like they really cared about our guy. For those that didn’t get the outcome they were expecting from this facility, I’m sorry but our experience, although the worst outcome you can imagine was the best we could have hoped for."
"I wish 10 stars was an option, because the staff truly deserve it! Sugar was incredibly ill on a Sunday - vomiting and pooping blood. We drove 1.5 hours to bring her to Grand Valley. The staff saved her life and were incredibly kind and empathetic. They also checked in on her multiple times (with phone calls) after she was released. The follow-up was greatly appreciated. I highly recommend bringing your animal here for emergency care. Thank you again to the entire team - Sugar is back to her normal loving and feisty self!"
