Reviews of Zinn Cycles Inc.
"At “only” 6’4”, I’m perhaps on the shorter end of Zinn’s custom bike customers! However, over the past couple of years, I’ve been working on losing weight—going from over 500 pounds to 350 so far. I came to Zinn Cycles around 400 looking for a custom electric bike that would get me back on the road again. I live in Portland, which has no shortage of custom frame builders! But, when I reached out, their response was usually along the lines of, “I can totally do that! I built a frame for an NFL player once,” which wasn’t quite as inspiring as Zinn’s entire business model being around big and tall folks. I was also really interested in Zinn because they use Bosch components for their e-bikes, which are much better-supported across maintenance shops nationally than most alternatives. The motor being zero-resistance when turned off was appealing, as well, because I live in a city apartment so wouldn’t have to worry about storing both an electric and non-electric bike. I can always just take the battery off and go. Ultimately, it took about six months for my bike to arrive, which in the world of custom frame builders isn’t long at all! And it’s a great bike—really an investment piece that feels safe and comfortable to ride. I’ve been a year-round cyclist in the Pacific Northwest for years, so I’ve ridden a few bikes at over 250 pounds before. I was always worried about breaking components when riding uphill or constantly wearing down brake pads—both of which are unsafe when riding on city streets in the dark and rain, and both of which have happened to me many times before. With proper maintenance, I really can’t imagine the components on this bike breaking under normal use, though; it’s built like a tank and is clearly going to last a lifetime. It’s also incredibly lightweight to boot! This was my first custom bike, so I really didn’t know what I was doing going in! Nick and Lennard worked great with my local fitter here in Portland, though, and were willing to explain everything in detail along the way. I was nervous about making a purchase this large over the internet with no ability to test ride, but the bike came out amazingly, and I’m so happy I took the chance. It’s rare as a big and tall person to find something that works perfectly for you; you always compromise on fit or weight vs. sturdiness. This bike is one of those rare times I haven’t had to compromise. Anyway, I would happily recommend Zinn Cycles to anyone in a similar position and am happy to chat with folks who are interested in ordering a bike of their own. If you’re local to Portland, happy to discuss in person, as well; feel free to look me up on social media and reach out. Cheers!"
"Took delivery on my new bike a little over a month ago now. I have the “clydesdale” credentials (~6’6” & 220 lbs) and rode an old school semi-custom steel bike for 20+years, 23 & 25mm tires & rim brakes so a Clydesdale 2XL was a big change. I've spent some time over the years in shops looking & talking bike options and had a lot of people try to put me on their biggest “mass production” bike, with built-in fit compromises (my last bike included). The process for this new bike was easy and painless and the team was very helpful. The ride is TERRIFIC - real brakes, bigger tires that take the edge off the bumps but still roll great, longer cranks that feel right right away (am I stronger all the sudden ?), and a riding position engineered to me. My wife says I look more comfortable on the bike, I can stay with her more easily on her e-bike on the hills, and my back doesn’t hurt at the end of a ride. Oh yeah, and the titanium looks AWESOME. The adage that “life is short, buy the damn bike” is real. If you are a big guy like me Zinn is the the perfect place to start, and definitely visit the shop (and restaurants) in Louisville to get checked out. I am SO glad that I did. "At 6'11, I settled for riding mountain bikes that were undersized for me and making the best out of it. My whole world changed though when I found out about Zinn Cycles, and their big boy bike line up! From start to finish, Nick helped me walk through getting the proper size frame and building the bike that I wanted within my budget. The end product was a gorgeous bike sized perfectly for me, and boy what a difference it makes! I now ride with more confidence and comfort than I ever have before. This bike is definitely a head turner and built to last. Can't wait to get my hands on a Zinn gravel bike in the future."
"I am 7’2” (IG @7foot2doc) and I regret that it took me so long to order a bike from Zinn! I ordered the 4XL titanium frame with a Bosch motor and 29” tires. I love it and it fits me perfectly. Often I ride it without even using the motor. Also thank you Nick for helping me chose the right components… you guys are awesome."
"Zinn built me a perfect FS bike that fits like a glove and rides better than anything else I’ve ever been on. I’m 6’9” and have never been able to find a bike to fit me until now. Quality components, oversized crank arms, and everything is setup to my exact measurements. I’ll only buy Zinn from now on."
