Reviews of Taste of Philly
"Nice place, clean inside and out. Went in for dinner, I had The Works, 12 inch (it was huge, could have definitely gone 9 inch). It was delicious! Loaded with steak, peppers, onions, mushrooms, and cheese. Wifey had the Original, 9 inch, which also was delicious. The bread was fresh, and had just the right texture, firm on the outside but still soft and fresh on the inside, you could tell the ingredients were fresh as well. I’m impressed. This is as close as I’ve had in a Philly cheesesteak since I was actually in Philly and tried both Pat’s and Geno’s, who both claim to be the original. Do yourself a favor and stop by, for a real “taste of Philly” if you’re looking for something new!"
"Friendly service and great food here! We shared a large cheesesteak with a small side of fries, and it was plenty for two. The sides of fries are big! Lots of seating, nice decor - reminds us of being in Philly."
"Overall, this is a nice place to grab a very good Philly cheesesteak or other sandwich. More cheese would make them even better. Standard type onion rings but cooked perfectly and tasted great. Family owned and family working shifts means you get top-notch service."
"TL:DR You won’t be disappointed with this authentic style Cheesesteak. It falls nicely between “local” & “tourist” fare. — I had never had a cheesesteak sandwich before and I was going to Philadelphia in a few days. I decided to stop at Taste of Philly to get a baseline on what a cheesesteak tastes like at home. Having nothing to compare it against, it was fine. Now I’m in Philadelphia. My friend who I stayed with said several people he knows swears by Gino’s Steaks and he explained why they liked it. After his explanation I was convinced Gino’s was the place to try. Late in the evening, I planned on taking the local metro/subway to get to Gino’s; however, I failed to study how they worked. I arrived at the station. Lost and obviously clueless, the man in the booth asks me where i’m trying to go. I tell him Gino’s. After explaining how I would get there he asks me if I’m sure I want Gino’s because it’s tourist food and if I would prefer what the Locals get instead. I tell him I am happy to try what the locals get. He sets me on my way to Sunny’s Famous Steaks. When I arrive I scan the menu and notice they do not offer any pepper cheesesteak at all (or any equivalent to ToP’s “Pepper Philly”). So I order the closest thing: Cheesesteak + American (see third image w/ black and white wrapping paper). This was bland and uninspiring. The bread was like a long dinner roll in taste and feel. The steak was practically flavorless (except maybe salted), the American cheese was American cheese (how else do you describe that?). Disappointed, I wanted Gino’s more than before. The morning before my departure from Philly I get to Gino’s who operates 24 hrs a day. They offered, and I ordered there, Pepper Cheesesteak (see second image). This sandwich was entirely different and so much better. Their peppers were vibrant in color, fresh and sweet. The onions were cooked well, and those two things changed the entire sandwich! Gino’s earned its reputation for a reason. Taste of Philly’s Pepper Philly (see first image) doesn’t quite look like Gino’s sandwich and it’s not prepared in Philadelphia; but, its flavors and preparation are no slouch. Taste of Philly make their sandwich so much better than Sunny’s! Their bread is lightly toasted, their peppers are mixed with the steak and cheese and the who thing starts scalding hot if you eat it right away (be prepared)! With great flavor and a staff that cares about their craft, they have demonstrated their sandwiches fit finely in realm of authentic Philly cheesesteaks. You won’t be let down."
"Oh my gosh! So delicious! I ordered the Works and added green chili & cream cheese. My taste buds went to heaven! Piping hot, just right chili heat, tender beef steak, fresh & savory veggies and so much flavor! Highly recommended. Stop by and taste it for yourselves."
