"Nice cool oasis in what can be a hot place. Helpful staff, bookstore and nice bathrooms. Shade ramadas for a picnic lunch. Much improved over the shack I worked in in 1977-78"
"The visitor center is great. The two-mile trail (several trails less than two miles... two miles is walk the entire trail), that takes you out to the native structures is awesome. Well marked trail. Easy walk. It is amazing that a people lived in this area hundreds of years ago."
"How interesting to see the way these people did things a little differently than in Mesa Verde. I wonder what pathways existed then for the people to move among the rocks and build these structures. It seems these people lived more on top than in the Valleys but there is some of those cliff dwellings here too. It's pretty easy hiking around the different areas and we enjoyed a nice day in the sun."
"This hike is fantastic! It's more of a 2.5 mile hike if you take the full loop and its all very easy EXCEPT where you have a quite narrow and steep decent into the Canyon and then a fairly steep ascent back to the top. It's an easy 2.1 if you follow the signs for the main trail once on your way, but if you go to really experience the ruins, then take the other trail (the tower point maybe?). But it is definitely more challenging than all the reviews that say "super easy" if you take that extra part of the loop. It didn't help that this was our third hike for the day...so I'm sure that played a part in today's adventure."
"The visitors center is the beginning point for the most popular hike in the park. One of my favorite spots in the southwestern United States. While its ruins aren't as extensive as a number of other sites, they are abundant and pretty impressive. But what you get at Hovenweep is solitude. It has always been quiet when I have gone. The views of the surrounding mountains are impressive and the solitude coupled with the ruins makes for a memorable experience. Well worth the visit off the beaten path."
