Reviews of Gateway Mesa Open Space
"Nice easy hike. Thankfully no snakes just lots of prairie dogs."
"If you’re in the Cadtle Rock, CO area, come visit this hiking trail that is for a nice family leisurely stroll in the open space. The hike is simple, some areas are fascinating, there are elevation changes but not not consider difficult at all, and is great for the dogs to accompany you. The parking area is small, so it is a hit and miss if you come during a weekend. The front range, the Continental Divide and Pikes Peak are all easily visible providing great views to hikers. I highly encourage this hiking trail."
"Pretty nice little hike for a sunday afternoon! We did the Legacy Trail which led down into the trees and shaded area (I'm assuming there is also a river or stream here when it's not as terribly dry) which was really cool. Easy hike, lots of trees and rocks, and there is a crashed truck that looks like it drove over the edge?? The rock pass to come back up to the top was pretty narrow, just beware if you have a large pack etc. But it looked cool and the bridge was neat! The top part of the trail (Chuck's Loop) was very open with no shade and hot in the sun today. We did see a lot of marmots at the farm on the way back to the parking lot! Would probably be a good trail for a family and kids, just beware of the temperature when on top of the rocks, and there is also poison ivy on the trail, but it is mostly marked."
"An absolutely incredible loop trail that can give you great views over castle rock. It may not have a lot of shade but it has a nice amount of easy hiking over rocks and such. It may be a little too rough for trail running but it’s great for a solid hike."
"Did Chuck's Loop for the first time today. There are a couple scenic overlooks and there's a little bit of shade on the trail. Overall it's ok for a quick hike, but the power lines and highway noise detract from the experience. Hidden Mesa on the other side of Highway 86 offers better scenery and more elevation gain."
