Reviews of John May Custom Paint
"Fantastic paint shop! killer paint jobs coming out of there."
"All I can say is wow, john match the paint color I need for my son's football helmets and they look 100 times better then last years paint. We use one of them today and my son took a big hit and the helmets looks just as good as when we pick up helmet's no scratches or paint chipping"
"Updated review: Our happiness did not last very long. What appeared to be too good to be truth, was not. The problems started when we put magnetic tank bag on our painted, “cured” and pinstriped gas tank. After couple of days rough patches/indentations appeared exactly under the magnets. Please check attached photos. It seems paint never got a chance to fully cure. We immediately called John and he offered to repair this “his way” for additional $350. During conversation he revealed that he had problem with drying of glasurite paint and then instead of communicating this with us, he decided on his own to spray clear on top of single stage paint. When we collected the parts he confirmed that all parts were shot single stage without clear which was obvious lie. Only when problems arise, John confessed that he did not follow the agreed procedure. At this point, even if he offered to fix the tank free of charge, we would not go that route since he was not honest and he essentially ruined all other parts by not following single stage procedure. His resolve would be to sand glasurite from the tank and paint and clear it with his paint that is close match while keeping other parts as are. We just could not accept this. Because of lack of trust in his business, we will need to bite the bullet and strip all the parts down to bare material and have it painted again with very expensive glasurite paint but now using respected and trusted paint shop. If you are looking for someone truly capable of doing custom paint work and person who you can trust, learn from our mistake and look somewhere else. One final note, John will make rude jokes about your accent if you are not native speaker. Initial review: We at Airhead Barn recently went through a complete restoration of the 1977 BMW R75/7. Since we are very particular about bikes we restore, it was of utmost importance to find a painter capable of shooting original BMW single stage paint so it looks terrific. Single stage means no clear coat to cover all possible imperfections so you really need to know what are you doing. After spending some time on a phone with John, I got positive answer from him that he can work with BMW glasurite single stage paint. Choosing someone who knows what he is doing is also important because 1qt of this stuff with hardener is ~$600 so no room for mistakes. John painted all parts of our airhead S fairing, also known as bikini or quarter fairing flawlessly in avus black. He also repaired cracked fairing and dinged gas tank. His work is so amazing that you would never tell that this is single stage paint with no clear coat. If you are looking for premium paint job, look no more, John is the guy. Paint work he did has amazing mirror finish and we were so glad to have him worked on our bike. John's price was very competitive."
"I sent my almost brand new 2016 Yamaha Stryker over to John. I bought the bike out of state on Cycle Trader and the photos of the bike looked blue. I purchased it after a buddy of mine checked it over for me. After getting it home I hated the color because it was actually purplish-blue in the sunlight. I also really didn’t like the decals either because it looked cheap to me. Anyway John did an outstanding job of painting it black and adding some low profile blue ghost type flames on the tank. I have sense then replaced the pipes and intake as well. One of the photos I posted is of the original color. I absolutely love the work John May did to transform my bike!"
"Amazing to work with!!!! After being taken advantage by the previous painter for my ‘64 GMC project, John didn’t hesitate to step up and take care of me. Not only did he stick to the agreed upon price, he did it in record time. He only had my truck a fraction of the time I expected. Well done John. I will definitely use again. Very professional and a straight shooter."
