"I was visiting from Texas a little over a week ago and happened upon this place. Having been raised close to Ely and having a Czech grandmother who made kolaches second to none, I have generally been very disappointed by most kolaches I have tried over the last 40 years (whether in Iowa or Texas). Most have way too much dough and too little filling. Although these kolaches have a larger amount of dough than I like, the flavor and texture is fantastic. In addition, as you can see, the filling is very generous and you can tell it did not come from a can. These are probably some of the best kolaches that I have ever purchased. The place is very clean and has seating inside. Their coffee selection is great and the flavors are wonderful. YOu will not miss Starbucks if you get your coffee here. Hope to visit when I am in Iowa next. I noticed a few people giving one star reviews because they ran out of baked goods. In Texas, the best brisket places start serving early and when they run out of brisket, they run out. So, that being said, you make every effort get there early. It is better to get fresh baked goods than something that is dry and hard."
