Grist Mill Fine Arts Council
About the Business
Grist Mill Fine Arts Council, located at 313 Main Street in Macedonia, Iowa, is a hub for arts and culture in southwest Iowa. The council was established in 1977 with the goal of bringing the arts to the community, and has since become a staple in the area.
One of the highlights of the council is the Grist Mill Theater, where you can catch the world's longest running show, Agatha Christie's "The Mousetrap," on March 22, 23, or 24. The show features a mix of old favorites and new faces, and challenges the audience to solve the mystery of who murdered Maureen Lyon. There's even a small prize for the correct answer!
The theater itself is housed in the former site of the McCready Family's John Deere dealership, and is filled with farm memorabilia that adds to the ambiance. Despite its small town setting, the Grist Mill Theater delivers big performances with the help of local actors and community support.
In addition to producing multiple shows each year, the council also awards scholarships to aspiring artists. Applications for the $350 scholarships are due by April 1st, and winners are announced at Class Night or a similar event.
If you have ideas for future shows or are interested in performing, the council encourages you to reach out and share your talents. The board members are always looking for new voices and fresh ideas to keep the arts alive in Macedonia. Contact them at gristmillmacedonia@gmail.com to get involved.
