Wahlburgers @ Hy-Vee,

"Stopped in for the first time with the family at the HyVee at Shadow Lake. Kind of a weird setup, or just new to me since I've never been. It's its own restaurant, but you order outside in the deli area of HyVee, then go in, and they bring you the food. Also, I would have thought they would have their own restrooms given they are a restaurant, but you have to go out into the main grocery store area for that. Not a big dea though given it's a collaboration with the grocery store. The food took a bit longer than expected to come out, but nothing too crazy. The staff that brought our food were very friendly. The restaurant area itself is very clean and well kept looking. Our food was also pretty tasty and fairly priced. I ordered tater tots with my burger and they were cooked perfectly... Golden crisp on the outside, soft inside, and nicely salted. For my main, i ordered the Wahlbuger. I ordered mine medium, but it was more medium rare than a true medium. Tasty nonetheless. Overall, it was a good experience--clean facility, reasonable prices, friendly staff, tasty food, and heck, if you eat here first, you won't go shopping hungry and maybe save some on your grocery bill lol! Definitely worth trying out if you haven't already."

"I did not like my Chicken Sandwich from there and probably won't give them another chance. I called and informed them of the bad experience and the manager of the Hy Vee store was very nice though."

"I actually really like Wahlburgers - we've been to a sit-down version in another city and it was great. However, the Wahlburgers at Hy-Vee is simply an addition to their own restaurant and the food was unfortunately not good. :( It tasted nothing like the actual restaurant food I've experienced and was just a huge disappointment. Our family had been really excited about Wahlburgers coming to town, but wow was this not what we were anticipating. I CAN say that the employees at this Hy-Vee are always wonderful and the service was great, so this in no way reflects the service we received. We were simply disappointed by the food."

"The food was good but nothing really stood out. We came here for dinner on the late evening and wanted to give this place a shot. We have never eaten at Wahlburgers and I’ve always heard about the popularity of the franchise. The food was real good the portion sizes were fine and everything seem to be cooked fresh to order. The only negative thing I have to say about this place were the prices. I really didn’t feel that the pricing was justified by the quantity or the quality of the food. Again don’t get me wrong the food was good but for the prices that you pay it’s definitely hard to return. The facility was clean and the staff was real nice. Overall I would return here, but I would have to really be hungry and really do it out of convenience."

"I’ve been to a Wahlburgers building in Kansas. After a rocky first time, I grew to love their food. Truly. When I saw this was opening at Shadow Lake, and I would be here - it was very exciting. I arrived later in the night, on Grand Opening night to a semi-crowded restaurant. The concept of paying and ordering ahead is much different than the normal server one. As for an atmosphere, it definitely didn’t feel like a Wahlburgers. The bar wasn’t serving alcohol, which was a bummer. However; sights aside how about the taste?! Meh. The Double Decker did not taste like the Double Decker I had in Kansas. It was most definitely lacking, the meat was chewy, and worst of all I chewed through a light colored strand of hair. Normally, I would have told my waitress - but the staff was dealing with their own issues. I just cut around it and thankfully didn’t choke on anymore. The rings were great. The Mac and Cheese was flavorless and dry. The fries ok. The chicken strips, what you’d expect. But I left disappointed in the experience and slightly grossed out due to the hair in my food. It wasn’t familiar, nor special. It definitely wasn’t the normal Wahlburgers I knew."
