Reviews of MercyOne Des Moines Maternity & Infants' Care
"A year has pasted now since my wife Karen has spent a week in this hospital due to birthing complications we had to go on a drive around the hospital on that year mark to relive some memories and it would have been so tempting to go in and meet some of are great friends that we made over that time, nurses doctors and all but we knew we wouldn't be aloud too. (God bless) you all for all you do it takes special people to work for others like you all do THANKS SO MUCH"
"I gave the 3 stars simply because my labor and delivery went so well. My nurse was wonderful and very caring. After labor and delivery I was put on mother baby floor. I was in extreme pain after labor and delivery and bleeding a lot. Nobody would change my sheets I asked multiple times they constantly got busy. They messed up my babies feet prints paperwork they put the wrong weight on it and would not fix it so I had to cross it out. People keep those for baby books. Mother baby floor was the worst they were rushing me early in the morning after being up in pain to name my baby right now. They were forcing me to name my daughter and fill out the birth certificate when I had been up all night because they refused to give me any pain meds aside from over the counter medication. My treatment could have been better at home for god sakes. At least I could change my sheets and wash them I sat in blood for 3 days. I couldn’t wait to leave I was begging. I personally had a baby there 11 years ago and they gave me pain medicine after delivery I noted that to the nurse and she said well you don’t need it this time. I was not at all even slightly okay with them telling me how I felt after delivery. The whole gaslighting rude behavior and judgment was too much for me. They wouldn’t even bring me my antidepressant that I ran out of so for 3 days I went without and it wasn’t good for my mental health at all. As for being a hospital who should recommend breastfeeding they were not they fed her bottles constantly and ruined my breastfeeding journey I have to pump constantly because of nipple confusion now. 3 stars for labor and delivery zero from mother baby floor. They are too busy judging mothers to fulfill their duties. Also my daughter was born with a whole in her heart that wasn’t even discussed with me or noticed until I left the hospital by her pediatrician. The hospital never notified it. Caused her difficulty feeding. Scared me to death they let her go home without catching it. Her pediatrician noticed it seconds after listening to her."
"Loved, loved, LOVED RN, Shaylor. As a first time mom I had concerns/ fears but she made sure I was as comfortable as possible as well as incorporating my support people as much as possible. She listened to every concern I had. I cannot stress how amazing of a nurse she is. From the moment she walked in the room to us being sent to M&B, she was incredible. And the energy she brought to the room was beautiful. I don’t plan on having another baby, but if I do I will make sure it’s at whatever hospital she’s at. I also delivered with Dr. Munro & he walked me through everything he was doing & everything that was happening. I also did not catch the nurses name from the emergency unit, but she was an older lady who was incredible as well. She helped me work through my contractions as well as giving my boyfriend tips on how to help me. She was so caring & gentle. You can tell everyone at this hospital loves their jobs & loves/ cares for mom as much as they love & care for the babies. Would definitely recommend this hospital to anyone if they asked."
"I’ve had 5 kids now from Knoxville to Chariton and three in Des Moines. By far best place!!!! Not only for mom but also for dad. Best service, knowledgeable staff, and all decisions were left up to us. Sam, and Kathryn you guys ROCK!! Great people all around. Mom was very worried about being epileptic but they stayed by her side keeping her calm. Worked with all our meds. We left ours at home so they filled and helped her stay on schedule with them. We were so happy with service from flipping baby to struggle with dilation through epidural to eventual c-section checking pain scales each time they came in also checking Dads comfort. So from Bristol and the rest of the Ford Family we suggest Mercy!!! P. S. He or she might tell you if your baby comes out let’s say not so cute if you ask them to be honest lol. Or he’s or she’s might just tiredly look for someone to write on your “Balls” for first baby Xmas bulbs."
"Please never go here if you want to be respected or listened to. No one listened to what I was comfortable with during birth and they made me go through delivery without an epidural because mine wore off right before I was ready and they thought I was “acting like I was in pain” just because. Not only that, the OBGYN LEFT for no reason in the middle of my delivery. Sorry excuse for a birthing unit."
