"I made an appointment for my boyfriend as a gift for his birthday and bought a gift card so he wouldn’t need to worry about payment. The gift card did not work when he went to pay and he was given no remedy or reason except “we don’t know how to use it”. The hair cut he received was uneven and the worst I had ever seen it. I’ve sent him to my hairstylist several times (who has little to no experience with men’s hair) and it has always looked nice. This isn’t a huge issue for him because his hair grows quickly and he doesn’t care a ton about how it looks. However, they also did not shampoo or style his hair, which is odd for that kind of price, and stated the stylist barely talked with him. After this we decided it’s unlikely he’ll go back, especially because we don’t know if the gift card will work next time and the service isn’t worth the money. We’ve reached out to see if we can get the gift card refunded and have never gotten a call back. My boyfriend stopped in and they were finally able to refund it. I’m pretty disappointed that what was supposed to be a nice gift ended up being such a bad experience for both of us."

"I’ve been to this place multiple times and I really enjoy the service they provide. However they are in down town Des Moines where you have to find a spot and walk there. I walked in the door right when it turned 12:10 due to no parking available and was refused service that was already paid for because of a “10 minute no show policy”. Which is not stated at any point during the scheduling process or on their website. Now I’m out $40 for service I was never granted. Sorry but I will be taking my business to scissor and scotch from now on. Where rules and policies are clearly stated."

"Great place for a cut. Husband got his hair lopped off for the summer heat and he looks great and feels happy (kids got a history of bad barbers). Chill vibes and super professional stylists. A+"

"Update: Dapper refunded me after this review. I appreciate that. I'm sure if I went again at some time I could have fixed it. Or we both could have spotted it but it didn't seem there until a bit later. I've gotten lots of compliments on the hair now though, i'm not showing the cut. ++++++++==========+++++++++==========++++++++ First timer, didn't know what expectations to set for a ~$30 modern haircut in my hometown. I saw good recommendations and reviews for Dapper from my fellow Des Moines friends and booked an 8:30AM appointment using their clean professional website. Good -Cozy 3 client hole in the wall with charm, right next to Java Joes (RIP) -I communicated what I desired (undercut with enough hair on top to bun) and was given suggestions in a professional cordial manner -Taper/undercut was clean, which is a breakthrough for hair options in DSM -They were able to restore my full head (12 inches) of unmaintained covid hair in ~40 minutes Bad -Left a significant sliver of hair above the left sideburn (photos) -I cut a bang weeks before the haircut and felt like I received shame for it when they spotted it (covid hair indifference). I did my best to not make it a big deal, but you might try offering a solution instead of making a joke about it, since this is a barbershop -Cozy... Like if someone else comes in it can feel cramped... Like the other clients are within leg distance cozy... Like if the other client talks about anything it automatically becomes the topic of the entire shop... Other -Not on Dapper really but another client came in midway through my cut and started talking that his friend was "getting married to a korean girl, I bet there will be kimchi, they always love kimchi"... No one said a thing. God Bless America -I didn't expect to have to fix a $50 haircut, but now there are two DIY repairs on my head -The downtown QR/Smart Parking launch failure made parking a joke I do want to come here for the forward cuts (and the mullet cut eventually), but this was a bad first experience for what I paid."
