"I was treated to lunch for my birthday today with my brother and longtime family friend. I enjoyed the Cuban Sandwich with fries very much and it was quite delicious. Our waitress was respectful and helpful with accommodations for one of our orders and checked in on us to make sure our dining experience was enjoyable. We were allowed to sit wherever we wanted and it was quite spacious and clean."

"Ordered the jambalaya and the rice was fresh, it wasn’t mushy like some places that make it days ahead. My only note is there was only 1 single shrimp. Had a great amount of seasoning, sausage and chicken, but basically forgot to add a few extra shrimp. 1 by itself kind of stands out as something was missing. Balance the ratio of shrimp, chicken and sausage and this would be a 5 star straight across the grid. We were celebrating a couple of birthdays and the server was great about letting us get some visit time in. It was slow and a Friday afternoon so not during rush time. We ordered the big cheeseburger with fries and it was cooked to the perfect medium, jambalaya, rangoons, 2 beers and a Bloody Mary (that needed a little help but I drank it down) and our total was very reasonable. 45 plus 12 for tip. There were a total of 7 at our table. This review is just for our meals for two people."

"Another typical iowa restaurant same decor & menu as everyone else. I made the mistake of ordering a so called cuban sandwich and as u can see in picture it looks nothing like one. The meat was tough I only ate about 2 or 3 bites that's all I could stomach I paid the bill and went home hungry sat down to a PB&J sandwich that was 10 times better. On the plus side water was at star bar was pretty decent."

"Given the scarcity of late-night food options in Des Moines, Star Bar is one of the few places that you can still get a solid meal even when you're not eating at a healthy hour. We've tried just about everything on the menu and everything offer on the menu is exactly as described. One of our favorite dishes on the menu is still the Star Burger. A no nonsense good bacon cheeseburger made with super fresh ingredients for a superb taste. We usually substitute the regular fries for the garlic parmesan fries instead. The beers on tap rotate throughout the year, but we haven't seen the Spaten Oktoberfest for a while now. Service is solid as others have pointed out and there's ample parking behind the restaurant."
