Reviews of The Highlands
"I was new to the west coast a year ago and decided to move here for a while after a short visit, as an online student through an out of state university I was able to afford living here. Since I’ve been here I’ve met a lot of people who are familiar with the highlands and some of them have had less than ideal experiences, mostly related to bad roommates. Personally, I have had a really good experience, communication with the front office has been quick and clear. I have had no issues so far that were not resolved."
"I love that the apartments are close to everything. It makes going to the store or out to socialize really easy. I also like that we have a balcony that we can go out and hangout on. I give the apartments a 4 because they are pretty clean and they have tons of storage in the kitchen so it’s nice because we all claimed a cupboard to put our stuff in. We also have a great view!"
"DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!! First of all… I lived in the Highlands 4 years ago and everything about their management and staff was terrible. No matter how many times we called them for issues in the apartment such as mold, the dishwasher leaking onto our floor every week, and little things around the apartment that needed fixing… it NEVER got done. For paying over $780 a month (not including utilities) , which is a ridiculous amount to charge college students for an outdated and broken down place… the overall experience was absolutely terrible. There was one month where the Highlands didn’t pay the trash bill and every dumpster in the complex was overfilled so badly and it stunk up the entire place. The manager is rude and will not solve your issues, she will just end up blaming you and is no help whatsoever. Secondly, I have been moved out for 4 years now. They JUST sent me to collections for a past due payment trying to charge me for a room that I didn’t even live in?!?! When I called to tell them I wasn’t living in the room they tried to charge me for, they said that I was wrong and they couldnt do anything about it. This isn’t a summer camp, so whatever “room they assigned me to” I didn’t want… so I moved my stuff into another room to be closer to my best friend. I called the front desk right away telling them I am switching rooms and they confirmed it saying that’s fine and they will change it on my account.. Now all of a sudden they don’t have proof?? So I had to pay a $560 collections fee to pay for someone else’s “damages”. They are a HUGE rip off and I HIGHLY recommend living anywhere else but here."
"This place is well known across Reno for being a dump. There's run down and then there's The Highlands. I've had friends live here while we went to college, and I honestly can't recall ever seeing any of their apartments being hole or mold-free, not to mention they just paint or caulk over the mold! This place is terrible! How they haven't been shut down yet for being slumlords is beyond me. You're better off getting an apartment further from campus because at least you won't incur hospital bills from getting sick from the mold and bugs!! If you care about your health and your kids' health, don't rent from these guys! You've been warned!! Note to management: Instead of asking everyone who leaves reviews to call you, I'd suggest you seriously re-evaluate how you're running your business. You can only go so long with such a bad reputation before it catches up to you. You still have time to fix these issues, REALLY fix them, before someone gets seriously injured or sick and litigates you to the sun and back."
"This place deserves 0 stars if anything. So much of the administration was a joke. They shredded my money order of $750 and then proceeded to tell me I was behind on rent and used a later months rent for that month. There was pretty much no guilt or acknowledgment of the issue this provides a self dependent college student and then put me into collections for not paying $125 for the move out charges on top of everything. An absolute joke."
