Reviews of Keanakako'i Overlook
"I went here year ago. This point is exactly not the overlook but when I walk a little bit, I see volcanic flow after dark. It got packed with people"
"I would think they would have a better barrier, since the week before someone had died here. But if you have common sense, you’ll be just fine. The walk was beautiful and easy, for someone as out of shape as myself. We brought a jacket but didn’t need it. The weather was sunny and warm. The views were incredible. You can see the lava during the day time. My kids, in laws and husband loved seeing the volcano. Helicopters fly around like house flies."
"Had the opportunity to visit this location three weeks after the lava began flowing at Kilauea. Well, a location near here that the National Park Service has set up specifically for eruption viewing. Kudos to the NPS. Hint: avoid the hour before sunset to the hour after sunset to preclude being shut out of parking. (Come early and wait or come later after the crowds have dissipated) The visit is well worth it. Take advantage of this unique window of opportunity to see an active volcano!"
"Best overlook to see the lava eruptions and the lava lake. Stay till it gets dark and you can see the whole crater turns orange due to the lava. Also the clouds above will glow orange. It's a 1 mile hike to get to the look out from the old crater rim road parking lot. It's paved road for the hike and it's a easy hike. Get there early or late in the afternoon to get parking here. If you don't get parking here you can park at the devastation trail parking lot. This adds about half mile more to the hike. It's all still paved roads so should be easy hike. Also make sure you have a jacket as it can get pretty cold at the lookout. Make sure you visit this place if you are visiting bigger island end of 2021 as there was an eruption early October."
