Reviews of Kamakahonu National Historic Landmark
"Such an epic location. Also the home start and finish of the Kona Ironman swim. Great exhibits indoors too."
"It has a beautiful sandy beach and a protected area in which to swim if the surf is too high on other beaches."
"Kayaking in the ocean? Best spot! We saw a school of flying fish right in front of us. Well, I saw one and a moment later my man saw a whole school, which somehow I completely missed. Either way, it was a spectacular experience with amazing views. The water felt amazing as well. I dove in for a second. We even watched a submarine submerge into the water from a pretty close distance with us being on a kayak. Definitely recommend going kayaking and this is a tried and tested location for that."
"While you can’t go inside the historical complex, being able to see the hei’au or ancient Hawaiian temple from across was impressive. I wish there was more historical structures standing in Hawai’i. The beach across it is open to public and the hotel even has an amazing ancient Hawai’i exhibit with paintings and explanations for those of us who love history."
"If you want to see green turtles, you’ll see many of them here. Walk to your left of the park, go there a few hours before the sundown. Beautiful place to catch the sunset( we found the short cut by parking at the end corner of the harbor. Walk for about less than 10 minutes and the beach is in front of you). If you decide to go for a long walk on the trail by the visitor center, it will be couple miles long round trip. Make sure to have great hiking shoes on. It’s sands and lava rocks throughout the trail. Towards the end of the trail, it’s so breathtaking."
