Reviews of Pololu Trail
"Beautiful views on the trail. Getting down is easy but the climb up is a great workout. Bring water and hiking shoes."
"Another beautiful trail with impressive view all along it. It’s about 20’ to go down and a bit more to come up (including picture breaks). once at the sea level you can walk all along the (black) beach. The view on the valley is impressive, but we can’t access there as it’s a sacred location for locals’ ancestors. You will also see many jellyfish (portoghese), be careful if walking in the ocean when the waves are calm.."
"This is a wonderful outlook and trail if you would like to see and experience a moment of real hawaii. Very IMPORTANT to listen to the locals who are assisting at the trial head follow all instructions to stay on trails. It is a little steep and the trail can get slippery in the dry dust or wet so be careful on the way down. I brought two guests from the Plantation House B & B for an adventure to Pololu. They had a great time and could not believe how beautiful it is. It is worth the hike back if you can made it all the way down to the rocky black sand beach to admire the waves and river valley inlet."
"Wonderful and sacred place. The hike is short but steep and a bit uneven. Parks staff was on site at trailhead to answer questions. You can hike only about 1/2 way down to a nice viewpoint as well. Some areas at bottom if valley are roped off to protect ancient burial sites. Take water and a moment to reflect."
"The hike is not as bad as it looks. The path is bumpy but mostly fixed rocks (not many loose rocks). About 20 minutes down with stops for photos. Mostly a rock beach but some fine black sand. About 15 minutes back up and it will make you sweat. I had the beach to myself at 9am on a Friday."
